Not surprisingly, the news on Jules Bianchi's condition is not good. Brain damage has been severe and there appears to be little optimism for his return to relative good health. Here's a url on hospital reports:

F1 driver Bianchi's brain injury severe, says family

Interesting that Alain Prost has commented that the vehicle recovery crane/truck into which Bianchi crashed should never have been in that location without the deployment of the safety car.

thanks for posting, there is no news, though, and there is a thread and a half already covering his health. Please remove this thread.

they way they were removing Sutil's car was not out of the ordinary, perhaps Prost would like to see a safety car deployed every time a race car has to be removed.

    Yep! SOP.

Why do they do it that way? Because many drivers lost their lives crashing into crashed cars. They decided, rightly IMO, that getting them out of the way, as quickly as possible was a good idea. That in itself has probably saved more than a handful over the years.

    Ian,
Modern F1 cars are crash tested and can now handle crashing into another race car (usually), but they cannot handle crashing into a tractor. My point is times have changed and using tractors to quickly remove cars is not as safe as leaving the car there.

I disagree. Cars very rarely leave the track under yellow conditions (and should never do so if the driver obeys the flag), so a quick yellow flag and removing the car is vastly safer than allowing green flag conditions with a car still in the runoff area.

Guys, maybe he just needs time to recover. What we all have is speculation now. I read somewhere that Richard Hammond suffered the same thing when he crashed a couple of years ago. He woke up one week later, and within no time he's back on Top Gear.

I'm sure Jules has the same fire in him. We will all continue to keep him in our prayers.
