Las Vegas GP? F1 plans trip to Las Vegas for grand prix on The Strip - Motor Racing - Sport - The Independent
Hell yeah, have so many friends that live in Vegas, it would be a cheap weekend for me, fly from Burbank, stay at my friend's, party at Drai's, Hakkasan, Light, Artisan, and mingle with superstar DJ's. Count me in!!
Another parking-lot circuit?!? Hope not, but where exactly? The only 2 tracks at Las Vegas Speedway are a laughable 1.2 miles long; that's for go-karts. Those are the ones 'exotic racing' companies use; what a joke.
Went to the last one. I was 14. Had a great time. This time around it will be a different experience.
Yet another street circuit proposal! What's bloody wrong with Bernie? All this when there are plenty of suitable tracks in the US.
I'll believe it when a deal is struck. Vegas is generally not a friendly town for this sort of thing. Parades and the like just don't work there, it's been tried. If anyone could make it work, it would be Bernie for sure.
That would be incredibly awesome. I love Vegas. The normal weekend crowd walking on the strip would already rival the attendance of many F1 races. Not sure how you make a street course out of the strip and the very straight and boring side roads, but I imagine they have something decent in mind.
Anything awesome, becomes more awesome when the phrase in Las Vegas is appended IMO. And, I don't even like gambling. But, LV is a great place to visit & this would be another great reason to go!...T
That would be fantastic!!!! I love Vegas, easy sell to the wife, enough hotel rooms, lots of flights, lots of other things to do there. Only 2nd to a NY GP
Since I live here.......THIS WOULD BE EPIC!!!!!! Would be a much better venue than NY with all of the rude people who think they're all gangsters and mafia.
I've always thought Vegas would be perfect for an F1 venue. Not necessarily a street circuit, that would be a logistical nightmare on the strip, but I think a new track or improvements to the speedway would be perfect.
If it happens this would be huge. Shutting down blocks of Vegas seems like one hell of an undertaking.
I think bringing in F1 to the Vegas strip would make financial sense. Lots of BIG money would come into town, a la Monaco GP.
This may happen because the town needs the action and the world media talking about the town for a week cannot be bad . I can see Wynn putting up the money
A while ago I read a fascinating article how star DJs attract huge amount of disco goers where they party for ungodly sums of $. Apparently this makes just as much money as gambling. Wynn has some of these parties in his casinos. F1 would bring in lots of these folks and this could make financial sense
For this The Mayor may even come out of his retirement. But I don't think it will ever happen, sadly.
Vegas gets those whales every weekend, but Vegas lives on volume, not a small handful of whales who come in once a year. I can foresee a street circuit like Champ Car did, but never could I foresee a huge swath of the strip being shut down for a race. It's not like New Years where the strip is closed for a massive party which draws hundreds of thousands. A very unknown racing series wouldn't even begin to be the same draw as New Years would be. I hope I'm wrong, but having grown up in vegas (and still am there many times a year to see family), you kind of get a feel for what the wants and expects. There would just be too many people displaced by what for vegas would be a small draw. I really hope I'm wrong, I'd be the first one in line for tix (no matter where they put the track). Just for information purposes, here's the Champ Car track that was done a few years ago. Mark Image Unavailable, Please Login
