I don't think Audi will enter F1, but Alonso may end up in an Audi racecar, eventually...

I think in LeMans this year Audi and Porsche were contending not only for overall victory but for their name in f1, especially if Ecclestone was found guilty. Now with Domenicali on board there is a real good hint that Audi might be about to do that. If with Red Bull as engine suppliers I can't see Alonso going there, though. Alonso is more attached to the Santander sponsorship than to Domenicali. That's why he'll end up in Mclaren imo

Why would Audi pick up an F1 drop out if they were serious about F1?

Because that's what they're used to in WEC and might be a better idea than hiring a complete novice, cough ... Mattiacci

And Ferrari drop outs are very popular hires. Look at Alonso, Massa, Smedley, Raikkonen, Aldo Costa, Barrichello, Brawn, Schumacher, Todt...

Alonso would go to Porsche rather than Audi, I would think.
