Caterham ask fans for financial help | Planet F1 | Formula One | News, Standings, Results, Features, Video https://www.crowdcube.com/caterham/
Not really, the only thing i feel bad about that team is Kamui, hope he returns to Ferrari gt program..he deserves a lot better than that crap....
Of course the staff will suffer from loosing their job. They are the ones we should be concerned with. But I don't feel sorry for the main players. "Team Lotus" Caterham was nothing more than a toy to play with for Tony Fernandez. When he saw his team wasn't going to boost his ego, he just abandoned it without a second look. Not really a motor racing enthusiast, and certainly not a gentleman.
I can't see how this is really going to help the team or solve any of it's problems TBH. If they manage to raise enough money to run in Abu Dhabi (which in all honesty I don't believe they will), then what? - Someone's going to suddenly decide that Caterham F1 are a team that's going places and spend tens of Millions on the team? (whilst knowing full well that they're never going to get that money back) - I can't see that happening! Trying to run an F1 team as some sort of charity organisation relying on donations from members of the public is just too desperate and frankly, as I see it, it's a complete waste of money. I
Perhaps a bit cynical, but why crowd-fund the administrator for Caterham so he can payout more to the creditors? No thank you
tifosi12, What do you mean by paid laps? I think they can work it to their benefit. No? If this cubecrowd site was contracted for a certain race or job, I'm sure they can work the licensing for the contest to make sense. It's a pretty cool way to sell gear IMO. I'm rewatching the tx race now.
Well, just guessing: they were given a special dispensation to skip 2 races but if they don' attend the next race they are out. If they are out they can't get Bernie's money and now that Marussia is KO they'd get a bigger chunk. So maybe doing that GP is more important than it seems.
Some people are not going to like this post but I think it's a dose of (harsh) reality: I see all of this "Crowdfund" idea as being one last desperate advertising campaign to try and find a buyer. The potential for Caterham F1 just isn't there (and never really was in My humble opinion). They came into F1 with misguided beliefs about budgets and then hoped that the financial World of F1 would change to what they needed rather than them having to change their finances to what F1 required. History has already shown that that was highly unlikely to happen! (How many decades is it now that budget caps and limited spending ideas have been discussed in F1?) Any money coming from Bernie is already spent on people/firms owed money by the team. When they finally go under (as they surely will), Bernie's money will make very little difference. Had VW/Audi really been interested in entering F1 then it would have been a battle between Caterham and Marussia to try to sell them their grid spots! This whole Crowdfund idea to Me is the equivalent of the passengers on the Titanic trying to bale the sinking ship out with buckets! - A noble gesture but that's about all! If Caterham F1 do manage to race in Abu Dhabi, if I were them I'd have a band playing throughout the event to keep spirits up! - It seemed to work on the Titanic!
I would like to see them race and I have a certain degree of sympathy for the employees but they should race only if THEY can afford to and if you think you are getting a safe, long term and low risk career joining an F1 team you are an idiot who hasn't done an ounce of research.
I may not have this right but as I understand it. Caterham owes its suppliers. If it raises small money and lasts the season its in for millions in Bernie Bucks. Why don't the creditors pony up the chump change to assure their payday?
I don't think you're correct there unfortunately. Marussia, yeah, they get 9th, and hence many Bernie bucks. Sauber are 10th (zero points, but a slightly better record than Caterham.) Caterham are dead last and 11th in the WCC. Zero Bernie bucks for them unless he decides to give them a hand out. Cheers, Ian
Thanks. I thought that one of the three wise guys said that during Q. Made no sense to me but that never counted for much in F1.
Funniest thing I've read in years. Bring F1 into disrepute? You can't divide by zero, everyone knows that!
They'll let you drive a 7 for 1100 pounds. Too bad you can buy one for less. Btw it seems they're better at crowdfunding than at racing, they should keep it up
ANY of these drive a F1 deals is a steal. Any. Just run the numbers of what it would cost to buy one, rent a track, buy insurance, pay for maintenance and staff on hand. Many of these operators go belly up after a few seasons. I'm not surprised. I looked once into buying my own F1 but even the most modest one would still be insanely expensive to operate. A friend of mine bought a Can Am and and Indy light and those were financial monsters. A F1 would be unthinkable. PS: I have a standing offer: I pay (gladly) $ 10,000 to anybody with a Ferrari F1 for one lap. It would make my dreams come true but I know nobody will take me up on that offer. I tried with some owners.
