-Cars look ugly -Cars sound horrible -V6's really??? -doubling points nonsense -sponsored drivers -budget & testing limits -Too many races -constant musical chairs between drivers & teams -No Italian driver -Teams appearing & dissapearing Getting frankly quite depressed seeing the current state of things. A lot needs to be fixed...
We've never heard any of those complaints before. Or seen this type of thread. The "No Italian driver"may be a new one though.
Today was an absolutely thrilling race. The sound is actually "hearable". You don't have to put in ear plugs and cover them with ear protectors if you are within 2-300 yards of the cars. "Pay" drivers have ALWAYS been a part of F1 from back in the day when an individual could buy a car and enter. Etc., etc. on your points.
Cars look ugly I admit that the nose is ugly -Cars sound horrible Not really -V6's really??? 4 cyl better for 1600 cc -doubling points nonsense Only this year -sponsored drivers That always existed -budget & testing limits There is no budget limit, only testing -Too many races That's debatable -constant musical chairs between drivers & teams Of course -No Italian driver Maybe because no Italian sponsors? -Teams appearing & dissapearing Nothing new then ...
This is the first year in a long time that I have looked forward to the races. For the most part the racing has been great. So the noise isn't what it was but if this is ruined give me more!! John
It sucks so much that I've watched every race of the season. Terrible. If it continues like this I'll protest by watching every race next season as well. That'll show 'em.
too many races? What? Since when is that bad? Doesn't it fit in with your schedule? The only thing I really agree with is the noise issue.
There is no Italian driver because there haven't been a decent one with talent in the last 10 years or so, at least not that I remember.
The only thing that really sucks is the times of some of the races. I hate getting up in the middle of the night and being sleep deprived the next day But other than that there are a few minor issues but nothing so bad that anyone would wanna stop watching or say it sucks.
I hate not having refueling because you can run light and not have to worry about tire wear. The new power units suck 10 out 10 people could tell a F1 car by its sound alone
I agree with the premise, but for me, here's the why:- 1) wheel to wheel racing has been "officiated" out of existence (79 French GP GV v RA - that's what we need and want to see more of and can be brought back with less officiating and more acceptance of racing incidents) Old and first time watchers of the sport understand and love this. 2) It's all too complicated and prescriptive. Too many gadgets and complications for the average public to understand. Make the rules simple, encourage creativity, but make things easy to copy. 3) It's too aloof/inaccessible. Get the cars, drivers and teams on tracks as often as possible. Provide a base "free-2-air" transmission to the globe. Any pay-4-view is the domain of the add-on/better coverage options.
Today, that legendary duel would have resulted in the drivers being black flagged and sanctioned. My favorite quote regarding the state of F1 comes from Mauro Forghieri : "The sport is being suffocated by (too many) regulations" ...and keep in mind, he said this in the 90s.
To me as long as it is still the fastest thing on 4 wheels around a track I'am happy. New tech bring it on... IMO it is better than nothing, besides as long as there is no one holding a gun at your head to watch it, the option is then self explanatory. Other than that, I feel that maybe some folk developed language skills, just for the sole purpose to complain.
IMO, if you're worried more about the noise the cars make than the power they make, you're watching the wrong sport. The cars make more power than last year and have less downforce, both are positives for actual on-track action. This season has been more exciting for those reasons than many in the recent past. Some people are scared of change, others embrace it.
I know it's not F1, but that was the basic concept behind the Daytona Prototype cars in Grand Am, and everyone complained the cars were ugly and not sophisticated enough. We can't win as race fans in general-sigh.
