Former chief of an alcohol company taking over F1 even as F1 considers ban on alcohol advertising. Nice.

... the only reason F1 is still intact, and hasn't yet ripped itself apart, like CART and IMSA: Bernie Ecclestone. Moment he's replaced, F1 loses 60% of its bargaining power.

Of course, you remember what Porsche did to Can-Am? Teetering at the brink, as of this writing, F1's number 1 problem is, the Germans want it taken over; the Germans think they can do better.

F1 needs to dump CVC, and privatize. Bernie needs to pony up, buy himself back out of CVC, before it's too late -- asj.

Bernie is just shy of 600 years old, or at least he looks it. Formidable though he is, Bernie is not immortal and I seriously wonder just how much longer he's going to be fit to work. An orderly handover to an approved successor is preferable to continuing to rely on him for F1's future and to suffer a sudden power vacuum when he dies.

    All the best,
    Andrew.

I wouldn't bet on that one!

As I've posted before, Bernie can't die because the Devil's too scared to face him and God doesn't want to give up power! ;)

Well, lets keep him on for a little bit longer because he wants to bring back the V10 with KERS/Hybrid.

That's OK, Bernie does not have that many years left above ground.

... not only has Ecclestone been reinstated. Have a look, if and when you find time:

Bernie Ecclestone returns as CEO of Formula One board - ESPN

Re-solidified, wholly reinstated, without descent, di Montezemolo and Walsh reduced to Lillyputians, now Ecclestone's even more powerful than he was, before. This is a very good thing for F1 - asj.

It's a quandary for sure, Bernie like him or not has kept F1 in the spotlight for many years, and made himself and a lot of others very rich, how many more years this will be the case, is the seemingly unanswerable immortal question.

While I can't comment on the validity of the article. Hopefully longer than it seems.

Totally agree - F-1 or any type of business like this needs a dictator... Bernie may not have the fans interest at heart but there is still a F-1...

F1 has lacked a strong authority since the FIA abandoned its responsibility. There have been too many competing entities persuing their individual agendas.
At this point there is no one but Bernie who can look at the big picture and he's only one who can make things work.
I wish him well. For the sake of the sport.

    Nobody, even Bernie, is irreplaceable.

There is somebody out there that can do the job, we just haven't found him/her yet.

I'm afraid that Sir Bernard goes out at room temperature. With no succession plan, that could make a mess.

With Lewis Hamilton and the likes, the sport will change for the better IMO. I just really hope the tv can remain entertaining. You gotta imagine with the amount of money floating around they can figure out how to get something on tv other than, "ohh there he goes through the chicane" and belly laugh a HO HO HO in a old time british accent.
