In 1993 he was tapped to star as Enzo Ferrari in the film "Ferrari", which was budgeted at $65 million (U.S.) and had Michael Mann attached as director. The project fell through.

 

I read that Eastwood's next project will be the Richard Jewell story, the security guard wrongly accused of the Atlanta Olympics bombing. I think Clint directing DeNiro as Enzo Ferrari would be brilliant, depending upon the writer, of course. DeNiro needs to redeem himself for some of the awful stuff he's done lately.....

 

I've read rumours about this project again a few years ago, but nothing else recently, so I suppose it's dead again. What happened with Mann's film about the Ford-Ferrari wars with Brad Pitt?

 

I hadn't heard about that. Who was Pitt supposed to play, The Deuce, Shelby?

 

I don't care for DiNiro anymore.

 

Ron Howard needs to direct it. His accuracy in finding actors that portray characters blows me away.

 

Agreed. He's about the only one that could do the Ferrari story right, IMO.

I doubt Howard could do any better than Eastwood. Either would be excellent, depending on who does the screenplay. It's all about the writing.

 

No matter what movie (even comedy), De Niro always plays the same typecast New York accented hitman character. Can he act?

De Niro is awesome.... Everyone makes a bad film now and then, but you can't argue with his talent

 

That was a really nice movie.

 

There's been a movie in early development called Go Like Hell that is the LeMans story of Ford Vs Ferrari. The film would be directed by Joseph Kosinski, director of Tron Legacy. I hope it gets made.

Eastwood seems more into war type dramas

 

I met DiNero two years ago - he's a partner in a friends restaurant in NYC... almost did not recgonize him: "let me introduce you to Bob" - he was very shy - quiet person. very cordial but quiet. loves wine and knows a lot about it. its hard to imagine that guy becoming the guys in the roles he plays.

I actually think he would be a great Enzo. he would look the part pretty well now.
