    Hey,

    A little surprised no ones on the case here...... FWIW, (very little!) here's the best times thru lunch on day one;

Nico's pole on Saturday was 1:24.681 btw. :(

A long way to go yet though.....

    Cheers,
    Ian

Gap between Ferrari and Merc can easily be explained away by the fact that Marciello has virtually no f1 experience whereas Rosberg is a seasoned f1 driver well used to his car.

Seems everyone was testing for different things anyway so any comparative analysis not all that useful.

Faster than Saturday because the track is more rubbered in?

No Manor? I haven't seen their news lately, maybe they are still finishing up their 2015 car.

Maldonado again proves he can be fast when it doesn't count?

I don't get it, the qualifying times are almost 2 seconds slower then pre season testing earlier this year. Rosberg's pre season time at Barcelona was 1:22.7 and his pole was 1:24.6. Usually buy now the cars should be quicker then pre season.

I thought Pastor had a pretty good race considering a broken rear wing. He made a couple of nice passes until somewhere mid race the car gave up the ghost.

Am I wrong to be surprised that Kimi isn't doing at least a day? Given the setup issues he had with the new parts and all...

Ambient temps/humidity between dates? I don't live in Barcelona to know.

I know in karting, cool dry air and a field of karts keeping the track temp artificially higher will make significant lap times differences between a muggy summer day where engines get less air, and tires cook.

Temp in february is much lower than it is now in Barcelona. They could also have used different tires (supersofts for instance).

    Indeed......

Indeed...... The early evidence this year says there's ~1.5secs difference between the compounds on most tracks. They ran H & M last week. Subtract 3.0 and he'd be a second quicker than his pre season time..... Which I find a little depressing TBH!..... :(

Many millions have been spent on tunnel testing, new aero bits ("pretty" noses with a zillion planes), wings, floors et al since Feb.

And they're barely quicker it seems......

Let's see where they are Thursday evening....

    Cheers,
    Ian

Seems that it's not just the engine makers who crave road relevance.
