Red Bull and Toro Rosso must brace for grid penalties

Red Bull and Toro Rosso must brace for grid penalties | FORMULA 1 news | Motorsport.com

5 and 10 places grid penalties will be applied to Red Bull and Toro Rosso cars, even drive through, since they have used all their engines this year.

They may as well write off the rest of the season and use it as test sessions to debug the recalcitrant Renault engine. Same for McLaren-Honda really.
Silly rules that force teams to forfeit one year to prepare for the next one, thanks to testing ban.

If you can't afford F1, including testing, then don't play. If nobody can afford to play then that's a signal that the technical regulations need to be brought back to reality. It really isn't rocket science, they're just trying to make it seem like it is.

No matter what, the biggest teams will have the biggest budgets.

Any attempt to "cut costs" on a new engine formula simply means all your current R/D $$$ gets flushed.

    Probably, but not always.

The example was Benetton and later Renault under Briattore.
Schumacher 2 first WDCs, and Alonso 2 WDCs were not obtained by a team with a huge budget.

But anyway, it's not budget discrepancy which is hurting, but the unfair distribution of the FOM money which favour 4 teams, whatever their results.

Some of those teams gained that larger share by winning though. If a back marker wins they too can become much more relevant and warrant a bigger piece of the pie.

Actually Ferrari, Mercedes, Red Bull, McLaren and Williams received some extra money from FOM, whatever their results.
Ferrari received $97m last year, apart from their performance related share.
What has Ferrari won last year?

I didn't say the winning team, just that teams will find ways to spend money.
