No doubt he has the skill,... but will he be given a car capable of winning before he moves on? Has he burned enough bridges that the top teams no longer want him? Does he love F1 enough to drive for a team with little chance of winning just to stay in F1,... or will he go to Sports cars?

He will be signing Renault memorabilia for the rest of his life, IMO.

He's done. He's toxic for a team and lacks the ability or patients to help the engineering team develop a winning car.

The second bridge burning at McLaren should bring some entertainment.

He will stay in F1 as long as the money is there for him. McLaren has a long way to go, but they will improve (Honda also has to stay committed). will he win again... why not, stranger things have happened in this sport.

Like someone else mentioned this here before. Alonso is a good race car driver but not a good test driver. If they give him a good car then he might win again. My prediction is that by the time the fix the car, Alonso will be ready for retirement.

Consider that he returned to the team that who bridges he obliterated, he can go lots of places. But. Ferrari have SV, so they are happy. MB have LewHam, so they are happy. McLaren are the only big-ticket team left.

Fernando's only enemy is time, and the clock is ticking louder by the day.

    I'm 80% he won't win again…

I don't think McHonda won't be competitive until Alonso is gone (not implying Alonso is responsible for them not improving,… but that Alonso won't have the patience to wait out the amount of time it will take McHonda to get competitive).

I think Alonso's next leap will be out of F1. I don't think it's in his DNA to drive for a team he knows going in is second or third tier with no real chance of improving.

I agree. The man is really good at dragging around a piece of junk.

Button however I believe has won his last f1 race already.

    Maybe. 50-50 actually.

Problem is, i think Fred has made some poor choices, and probably some attitude issues as well. None of the teams he has been to ended in good terms. It always starts bright, and the shine just goes off. Somehow, he loses confidence in the team, and vice versa.

Which is bad, i think, considering, at the moment i think he's the best in F1.

I bet he leaves for WEC for a year and then tries to come back to a team in contention. Assuming Honda continues this way and the regulations don't change enough to give him hope. He's still in his prime; no way he wants to spend it lifting and coasting in a ****box.

I certainly don't think he'll ever win another WDC.

As for a race victory, that may be possible in future seasons. Stranger things have happened.

    All the best,
    Andrew.

    +1

I mentioned at the beginning of the season that McLaren would be lucky with 50 points, but I quickly halved that... Now I'm doubting even that! (so far they haven't got a tenth of it and we're nearing halfway....)

Some said McLaren would challenge for podiums and even wins by mid season. Hmm.

Give him a better car and yes. But I think that goes for most any driver on the grid.

I remember radio transmissions from the first year Hamilton switched to Mercedes.

"I cannot drive any slower". "I can't believe I'm being passed by a Williams."

    And look at him now.

True. But that's the point of the question...

Does Alonso have the patience to stick it out at McHonda until the car improves? And if he doesn't,... are there any better F1 options open to him,... or will he jump to Sports cars...

IMHO,... the cracks are already showing... and I don't see any reasonable chance for Mc Honda to be competitive this season or likely even next...

When Mt. Alonso erupts,... McHonda will look like Pompeii!
