You can get to the results at this link: GPDA Survey 2015
I am continually amused that the head of the GPDA is a former BMX bicycle world champion and erstwhile F1 driver. Other than that, the survey seems to be pretty much in keeping with the opinions expressed here.
Ferrari #1 favorite team. #2 McLaren, #3 Williams Kimi Raikkonen #1 favorite driver. #2 Fernando Alonso. #3 Jenson Button Jenson Button has the most followers on Twitter. Greatest driver, Ayrton Senna , of course.
1-I didn't know there where other favourite teams besides Ferrari... 2-Sounds normal to me, he's the coolest out there and 10 years ago he was the best driver in the field...not anymore...still cool though.. 3-Twitter is a girl's thing.. 4.Go figure.....i guess most of the voters never saw Gilles driving....and they didn't like Shumacher...
of course you would reply something like this. Most of the current and recent drivers named Senna as the greatest driver, even Michael Schumacher.
True, but when the vast majority mentions Senna, especially top drivers, they might just know what they're talking about.
possible. then again, most of them were kids when Senna was racing so I'd say myth is a big part of it. It's a bit like me claiming Colin Chapman was the greatest engineer ever. Might be true but for all I know he might just have been an asshat with a lot of luck (he probably wasn't though). I wouldn't know because I never worked with the guy. I have the same relationship to Chapman as most recent drivers have to Senna. Just saying.
I think the results are in line. Though I thought the sound would go over 80% and the average viewer would be older than 37! The curious fact for me was that the USA was #3 in voting.
Note that the U.S. had the third-highest number of respondents, ahead of (supposedly) F1-crazy countries like Japan and Brazil.
.... Indeed. That prompted a quick Google. USA; Population 320MM, of which 280MM have 'net access. Brazil; 200MM, 116MM Japan; 127MM, 110MM Unfortunately, they don't show a breakdown by country, but I suspect those numbers correlate somewhat. Cheers, Ian
What i think is really funny is the need to ask wich is the most popular team....-i guess the only place where Ferrari wouldn't win is inside uncle Ron office.....of course if he locked himself all alone inside it!!! About Ayrton, i think there are a number of reasons why he is the most popular amongst fans. 1-He was a hell of a driver 2-he drove at an era where tv coverage was enormous, so he had much more viewers than let's say Gilles, Lauda, Clark and all the others behind 3-the combination off several nationalities - F.1 as a lot of british fans, so driving for Mclaren he got theyr atention...he drove an Honda engine so he got all the japanese fans, he was the best brazilian, so he got all of them, here in Portugal almost everyone cheered for the brazilians so he got the Portuguese to 4-Most of the drivers that still talk to teh emdia and cover f.1 where from Senna's time, so they talk about him a lot (you have Brundle, Damon, Herbert, and others)...if you speak with Keke for example, or Lafite or Arnoux, they will rather talk about Gilles and Prost....
