just saw the news...
Yes, the news are out...its a done deal. Ferrari confirm Raikkonen will stay for 2016 season - F1 Fanatic Rgds
??????????????????????????? what? Vettle must have put his $0.10 in ... and said he's the perfect teamate.
The news are "all over town" since 16:00 in Europe; you should not loose so much time in the "Pretty girls with Ferraris" thread, Pedro, you wouldn't miss the important news... Regards.
Maybe they listened to what Mario said two days ago... Ferrari: Mario Andretti urges Maranello based team to retain Kimi Raikkonen for 2016 Rgds
+1 Nice news to wake up to. As noted previously, "the devil you know" is often better than the one you don't..... Now, if Allison & the guys can give him a car he can drive, look out!.... Although he's older, I for one still believe he's a fantastic talent & could give KI a decent run for his money, not just be a subservient #2. Cheers, Ian
A move for consistency and harmony. He his not showing the results he should. Neither is Bottas ready or the 'magic' he seems to be, given he is about parity with Massa. A good move but Im thinking this is Kimi's last year no matter.
Good. Don't fix shyt that ain't broke. Need to improve car in 2016-not the drivers. Get ready for an epic drive from Kimi at spa this weekend!!!! Allison must be happy too...
+1 to all. Allison & he seemed to get along pretty well at Fauxtus, so I have high hopes for him next year. Hopefully he'll be well motivated at Spa, a true drivers track that he enjoys and often does pretty well on. [He'll now probably put it in the barrier in Q1, but I hope not! ] Cheers, Ian
BBC Sport - Kimi Raikkonen: Ferrari retain Finn to partner Sebastian Vettel - A practical option given the lack of other options it seems.
Good news. I'm sorta hoping someone who went through Torro Rosso replaces Kimi when the time comes. If the situation doesn't allow at the end of a year, keep re-signing Kimi.
I think that it was actually a smart move to keep Kimi for 2016 for several reasons: 1. He is a former world champion and has exceptional talent that has been hidden more because of the car's inability than his own. His one failing as shown by his past performances is that he has to have the car set up just right for him to be able to take advantage of it, otherwise he can't perform well, whereas other drivers like Vettel have more of an ability to come to terms with a different car and different driving style (though even Vettel is not as good as some other drivers in this respect). 2. He works well with Vettel and what people don't see behind the scenes is that he helps and has helped to develop the car which has improved dramatically since he came on board last year (it takes time). He shares information with Vettel, which also helps. 3. He and Vettel share a very similar driving style which also helps to develop the car so that they can hopefully take most advantage of it.
Good news for Kimi. Bad news for Ferrari (as far as points are concerned). I think if it wasn't de to vettels influence telling hem to keep Kimi he wouldn't be getting another year. Luckiest driver in f1.
