What cars does Bernie own himself or drive? Just curious if he has ever been photographed behind the wheel or ever talked about it in an interview. Does he play favorites with his personal cars or just get chauferred? Robb
He has a large car collection stored at Biggin Hill airfield, south of London. He is very secretive about it but it does include a number of F1 cars - some of which ran in a demonstration in Bahrain two or three years ago. A few surplus cars were auctioned off a few years back. He also bought the Obrist Ferrari collection although most of the cars were subsequently sold on. Jonathan
I do remember he had a Mercedes CL at one point, which had its wheels stolen while parked in London if I remember correctly. I imagine Bernie has various 'to be driven cars' but spends most of his time being driven to and from airports and meetings
Bernie is a plonker, probably hasn't driven anything for many years. It's all about $'s. An empty life. Pete
Bernie gets a Merc and chauffeur for F1 events. He is known to have driven modern Mercs and Range Rover's himself when in London. His wife drives a Ferrari F12 that perhaps is actually Bernie's as well. As already stated his Biggin Hill and Swiss collection of F1 cars and classics that rarely leave storage, is known to be pretty breathtaking.
As far as I know Bernie still has the majority of the historic Brabham cars - Fan car, first turbo WDC car etc.. also has the only original Ferrari 312 from 1966 - car that Scarfiotti used to win at Monza... as well as several other key F-1 cars from Ferrari. I would think that today he is chauffered around in an armored Benz... with plenty of body guards. he seems to like the Slavic types you see in bond movies Dmetri and Serge...
+1 The "whispers" are that its one of the premiere F1 collections there is. Tyrell P34 and all kinds of 'weird' stuff that they tried over the years too..... I wonder what's in his will for it? Hopefully, put it all on display somewhere. Cheers, Ian
BCE has been dispersing his collection or at least parts of it. Maserati 250F & Mercedes Benz W125 both sold through the trade in last 2 - 3 years. So secretive it is very hard to know what he has and doesn't have.
+1 Hardly his 'daily driver' though! Can't find it now, but there's another YT video where he's very obviously listening intensely as the car circulates..... Not even Fred can slip anything past Mr E...... FWIW, my very first experience with a 'race car' was a Ford Anglia very similar to Bernie's. Cheers, Ian
I don't care who you are - Anyone from a homeless dude living in your car thru Bernie or the Queen herself, finding your ride sans wheels has gotta suck the big one! Cheers, Ian
Bernie has been targeted several times by muggers too. Once in front of his house, 2 hoods attacked him and his Croatian former wife Slavica as they were coming back from some function. They threatened them with knives and nicked all the jewels she was wearing and Bernie's expensive watch. Not so long ago, he was assaulted by someone for his Rolex, and got a black eye for it. That made the headlines here in UK. So, I suppose that having his CLS wheels stolen was less dramatic.
The watch was a Hublot not a Rolex. Bernie being Bernie appeared in a advert about what people are prepared to do to own one.
