Not a particularly deep piece, but considering how many people watch "60 Minutes", that's probably the biggest audience F1 in this country may ever have had!
Haven't seen the 60 Minutes piece yet, but... given the way the FChat crowd ripped him up the last time he mentioned Schumacher, it's probably best if he avoids that mention altogether!
What a fluff piece! Lewis did well, but you could tell the interviewer was completely ignorant about racing, for example: wings "enable the cars to go around corners at 100 mph". WOW; I never knew anything like that. How about going into Eau Rouge flat at 185, for example. The biggest sin was that it was obviously some 2 month-old journalism. No mention of the diminished results at season's end, the blowing off of the awards show/banquet in London, the wreck in the Pagani, rivalry with Rosberg, etc. Come to think of it, was Rosberg's name even mentioned? I did enjoy the laps of Silverstone!
Sounds like an LH 'infomercial' putting him in front of a large number of US viewers. Perfect for an emerging media star who desires a career in the US entertainment field. It was never going to be about a deep look at his F1 status nor would it be technically correct.
It was a good interview for being less than 10 minutes long. Hamilton conducted himself well. No reason to mention Schumi, because it had nothing to do with MS. Charlie Rose did mention Ayrton Senna, because it was Hamilton's favorite driver. Charlie had access to Lewis at the GP track, in private one on one, and as a passenger in an AMG on a GP circuit. This wasn't Jimmy Kimmel's sycophant interview about Lewis' lifestyle. Charlie Rose kept it to information about the current champion (his childhood to championship), driving, and Formula One.
Agreed in general. It was not very interesting since it was targeted at those US Americans who don't know F1. They did focus a bit much on his skin color (true to 60 Minutes style). If a show like this and Hami's popularity and global appeal is what it takes for the US to awaken to F1, then I'm all for it.
Agreed, it was aimed at the US public that knows nothing about F1. Lewis acknowledged that racing at high speeds is dangerous, and they showed what I would call an unnecessary photo from what looked to be Ayrton's fatal accident, (including his body laying on the ground beside the wrecked Williams), with no mention of Jules Bianchi, so as an F1 fan I'd say they could have done much more, but for the generic American, that's about as deep as they could go.
It was dumbed down for the non-aware public platform that live in a bubble thus pretty much a waste of airtime.
