In pictures - Pirelli wet-tyre test at Paul Ricard I know that Pirelli controls this testing, and that they're using last year's cars, but it's good to know that someone is on a track at least! Just McLaren, Ferrari, and Red Bull allowed to participate for whatever reason.
As noted, 'a whole world of hurt'...... But, they've got (exactly) 223 extra hp this year, so they'll be good when the time comes. Cheers, Ian
''transponder problem'' Now THAT, is one i've never read of in my near 15+ years of active F1 following.
I don't know if many have realised that, but China has entered F1 through the back door. Since March 2015, F1 tyre supplier Pirelli is owned by ChemChina that bought it for $7.9 billions. Pirelli an Italian company? maybe, but for how much longer ?
Actually, I've heard of them failing on occasion. It's very rare, but does happen. I think they also carry two at 'official' meets. Anyone know if they're still made by that Dutch company? "AMB" IIRC. Way back in the day I raced RC cars and we carried AMB transponders - Remarkable little things and that's where they got their start. Then I believe they got a contract with Motogp and subsequently pretty much everyone..... The guys have done well for themselves! Cheers, Ian
