    From the article:

"In fact, the report said the change has already been agreed to — with F1 race director Charlie Whiting as well — and will be implemented by the summer of 2017."

    &

"Ferrari's Sebastian Vettel has reportedly already tested the amended configuration in the simulator and found it interesting."

Me thinks it might be for all races...

Understand it for Motorbikes. The bridge is a death waiting to happen. For F1 I don't get it. Their chicane will not encourage overtaking there...

AFAIK Charlie approved it, but that's all. That's not a guarantee it'll be for F1, too. WEC will likely use it, probably not using the first Chicane (very tight with a huge pack).

As long as the original remains. Christ.

This is the nature of things. Panels, study groups, boards, governing bodies, etc. exist for one reason, to make changes. If they didn't make changes they would be committing suicide. Even when everything is perfectly OK, they have to make changes or admit that they have no reason to exist. In fact, the better things are, the more outrageous their actions.

Curva Grande was emasculated a long time ago by the first chicane at the end of the front straight. I remember playing GP Legends with the original layout and the turn in cue for the apex was a lone tree!

While Monza is arguably one of the holy grails of Racing .... The Curve Grande would not be possible in a modern F-1 car .... the G's would be enormous if there was not some form of Chicane or some way of slowing the cars entering the turn. if go off at the CG... there is just a massive cement & stone wall... behind which is a public road.

I hate to see the traditional Configuration of the track altered, but it would also be great to renovate the "Pirelli" circuit - that is the old test track that they will use as part for the Moto GP track....

while I doubt they would ever use the Banking again - I hope Italy will preserve Monza in its entirety - and rebuild all the classic track components. If you ever go to one Race outside the USA - Monza is it. its nuts, crazy fans, traffic is terrible ... but the atmosphere is totally un repeatable anywhere. Every inch is covered in History.

How many serious accidents have there ever been at the Curva Grande?

According to this page: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Autodromo_Nazionale_Monza_fatalities the last fatality at the Curva Grande was almost 16 years ago in a national supersport motorcycle race.

As for modern F1 cars not being able to get round Curva Grande any more, today's F1 cars are not as fast as the mid 2000 cars were, and those cars had no trouble getting round the Curva Grande!

I can only assume that Blanchimont at Spa and the 130R at Suzuka will be the next corners to be given additional chicanes to slow the cars down! :(

Oh the cars will get around ... but with drivers may not be conscious... that was my point. the G's would be awesome... this is assuming there is no chicane from the pit straight.

I was always looking for Monza and Hockenheim on the calendar.

They completely destroyed Hockenheim, and now it's Monza's turn.

+2. Watching the cars going flat out most of the lap was something else. On the other
hand, it's easy to forget that it was not a place where there was a lot of overtaking.

    Oh Dear !
    Corners should not be "interesting".
The best circuits are Exciting or Challenging, or both !

    What next, "nice" corners ?

Concur. "Interesting" is a word I use to describe an outfit my wife has on that I don't like ; )

Kimi surely isn't happy. I believe Monza is/was his favorite track.

Kinda like the ones at LeMans, and then they put in 2 or 3 of them, it was
pretty neat to see a Puegeot go 255mph, Roger Dorchy...

Errr... I think it was a WM, not a Peugeot.

The chicanes on the Mulsane Staight at Le Mans were introduced after FIA president J-M Balestre decreed that there should be no more than 2 KM between corners.
He was in conflict with the ACO, and thought to force them to abandon racing on public roads.
The Sarthe department rallied behing the ACO and 2 round-abouts were built, which were not really necessary for daily traffic.

I recall races form the '70s where the television helicopters could not keep up with the cars from Tertre Rouge to Mulsanne.
