Formula One Might Replace Ferrari's Home Grand Prix With New Race In Las Vegas This does not bode well... Robb
There is no information about any F1 organizations in Las Vegas. I have no idea what he's talking about. If they had it, it would have to be in the spring or fall. The summer would be too hot even for spectators. A LV race would crush COTA.
No thanks for me, no Italian GP, F1 becomes officially irrelevant, this would be the final nail in in the coffin for me.
I've a better idea -- get rid of all the middle east grand prix; the Tilke tracks are all boring. There's no Maggetts, (old) Tamburello, Eau Rouge, etc. anywhere to be found among them.
Hopefully this is all jockeying for points in a new contract - how much to pay etc. It would be tragic to loose Monza. If you were talking about what's best for F1, you keep Monza and bring back Imola. On Tilke, I always thought T8 at Instanbul Park was a great corner. T1 and the esses at COTA are pretty good also IMO.
+1 its pressure from Bernie to get Monza to get things sorted now. I dont doubt he has other interest from locations for a race either though.
This issue has more to do with European attitudes than anything else. Lots would love us to go back to caveman status, no sophisticated global racing series. Why continue to race in Europe? Bernie is probably trying to flush out/test the people that still want Monza to step up.
Well, that´s probably because in Europe someone still cares about F1. I prefer watching a race at Monza with people at the grandstands than at an empty track in the middle of a desert. I don´t care if Bernie gets more money from the guys of the desert and it´s not an European attitude, I have no problem with having races at Japan or Brazil: they care about F1 too.
+1, the last time Formula 1 raced in Vegas in 1981 and 1982 it was a joke, why would this time be any different. I used to be excited to see how many races I thought I could attend in my life, but almost all of the venues added in the last 15 years do not have any compelling reason to visit. I am glad I have had the ability to go to both Monza and Imola and count those days as some of the best times I have had. I will take the Italian, Belgian, German, British and Monaco Grand Prix over Bahrain, China and the Six Flags over Abu Dhabi races every day.
I think Bernie has an alarm on his watch that goes off every two months, and it reminds him to stir the pot, threaten old tracks and propose new ones, with the main goal to make more money for himself. Just an opinion.
+1 And like clockwork the hens get clucking. Monza and Silverstone are the two 'safe' GP's on the calendar.
And as he pointed out himself, he's not a fan of democracy. He prefers the Poetins of this world who hand over any sum just to part of the circus.
I think the chance of F-1 going back to Vegas... 100 to 1 odds. This is Bernie trying to pressure the Italians. could he have signed a deal, sure but I doubt it would have any chance of success. At least Vegas would have some nice hotels and good food.... not that Austin does not have good food, but you can only have BBQ for so long.
We're still waiting on the NY/New Jersey GP and out of nowhere comes Vegas. Not even mentioning the brittle situation of the US GP at CotA.
Selfishly I've always wanted a race in Chicago. Granted a lot of work would have to be done, but it would be stunning to see F1 cars going down Lake Shore Drive with the skyline in the background and boats docked on the lake watching..
Bernie is just doing his usual (i'm an idiot) thing...i too vote to get rid of all the midle east and Tilke crap circuits....o, and get rid of Bernie also....
