That sounds awesome, and ''Sauber'' staying around will make me happy. More data for Ferrari, too.

Please get rid of Monisha though. Ever since she got the big seat there have been made some huge amateuristic mistakes that cost the company dearly, and the team has gone backwards in spectacular fashion. As if they're racing with a parachute attached.

I really don't know anything about Monisha but she always appears to be ill at ease, out of her depth. I'm pulling for Peter Sauber I believe he genuinely loves the sport.

Only issue is the amount of money a second F1 team will cost, and can Alfa be good enough to challenge the official Ferrari F1 team? And what about the new Haas team which has a considerable amount of Ferrari technology?

To be honest, I would think that Toro Rosso would be a better aquisition for Ferrari/FIAT if they want to resurrect an Alfa Romeo team.

    - Mateschitz has hinted for a long time that he would sell the team "to the right buyer".
    - TR is located in Faenza, Italy.
    - TR is an Italian team, staffed by Italians.
    - TR has a long association with Ferrari, going back to its Minardi days.
    - TR has a good technical team and better management than Sauber.
    - TR also has 2 of the best young drivers on the grid: Vestapen and Sainz.

To me, it's no brainer that TR is a better team than Sauber, but maybe the Swiss team can be taken over very cheaply, in view of its financial woes.

    +1.

They are literally just down the road. I would think TR. would be a much better proposition.

I guess the price for Sauber will be significantly lower though.

Completely agree. And, if a 2016 engine would be in the STR it'd be about as fast if not faster than the Ferrari itself, so they could just change the paintjob on each car and be fast! ;)

The problem is that Sauber probably can be bought for peanuts, while Toro Rosso can´t be. Also, the technical team of Toro Rosso is located at Great Britain and I guess that it´s closely related to Red Bull´s, so I doubt that it would be included in the deal.

GPToday's Alfa Romeo history is wrong.

The inaugural F1 season was in 1950 and not 1951 as stated.

In advance - Welcome Back Alfa Romeo.

I would love to see Alfa Romeo returning to the sport. There is a great heritage and history associated with that name.

I don't think Red Bull would get rid of Toro Rosso that easily. Also, I would like to see Sauber stay alive.

    That's new to me.
When Paul Stodart wanted to move the Minardi team to Britain, there was a clause in the contract preventing him to do that. Minardi only sold his F1 team with the proviso that it stays in Faenza, Italy.
I thought Mateschitz was bound by the same clause, so it's surprising that the technical team is now in Britain.

You know what they say about a cheap offer:

"When you pay peanuts, you get monkeys."

Sauber is nowhere at the same level as Toro Rosso at the moment.

Who ever would buy Sauber would have to completely rebuild the team from scratch.

Also, from an employer's point of view, operating a company in Switzerland is a bureaucratic nightmare, with very strict business laws, restrictive work practices, high wages, etc... compared to Italy.

    Got me thinking again:)eek:).....

Outside of Ferrari, the exception that proves the rule of course, how many WCC's have been won by teams not based in England?

Weren't even Matra & Gurney based there back in the day?

    Cheers,
    Ian

Yes, Britannia rules the waves !!!

Matra International was Ken Tyrrell's team based in Didcot. It won one WDC with Stewart, before switching to March chassis, etc...

Matrasport itself (Beltoise, Pescarolo) was based in Velizy, South of Paris, and never won anything.

I think Gurney's AAR in Britain was based in Poole, Dorset, where the chassis were make. The engine was made by Weslake in Rye, Kent.

:) At least in terms of building race cars.

    March; F1, 2 & 3 over the years
    Ralt; F3
    Reynard et al; FF
Not to mention pretty much every F1 car since the dawn of time. ;)

    Seems about right, thanks.

    Cheers,
    Ian

Ligier was based in Abrest, suburb of Vichy, not far from Clermont-Ferrand in Centre France.

Martini was based in Magny-Cours, Centre France.

AGS was based in Gonfaron, South Eastern France.

Gordini was based in Boulevard Victor, in Paris.

Larousse was based in the South of Paris, but the chassis were Lola.

Bugatti was based in Molsheim, Alsace, Eastern France.
