Knock on affect from bottas crashing into him. Effectively hands another win to rosberg

LOL. good, it's nice to see him struggle when he doesn't start from the front.

The wheels are coming off for Hamilton this year.

Yep...digging a hole early on. Will be interesting to see how the season unfolds, but starting with so many issues early on tends to favor the the guy being chased. Too early yet, but it reminds me of one of Scumacher's star-crossed seasons versus Alonso. Everything went wrong early on, leaving him with no margin for error in the WDC race.

The more people between Elton and the front at the start, the more likely he will play bash em crash em to get back, and the more chance rosberg or our boys get a chance of the win. All for it, love to see him slip further behind rosberg because Rosie's confidence will grow and grow, and give him the strength to hopefully fend Elton off later in the season when the luck changes

With a clean start and a car that is working properly LH will be able to compete and probably win this potentially. This is not the worst penalty at all. His pace in Bahrain was worth noting here.

I know merc said they took it now because its an easy track to pass but the psychological affect of being a whole 25 points behind rosberg doesn't really make it worth it. Should have taken it at like Spa or something.

My hope is he has a good start this time and gets into second by the second lap (ferraris are much stronger this year however so won't be easy) then he can get rosy in the pits

China has very long straights where the Mercedes engine power and DRS will allow for easy passes. As long as Hamilton doesn't have any incidents in the opening laps, he'll definitely be on the podium. While Rosberg is the heavy favorite to win, I'd be surprised if this isn't another Mercedes 1-2 track so the damage to Hamilton's championship will be minimized.

It'll be interesting to see whether the Ferraris have the pace to keep Hamilton behind them. It's a tall order at this track, but stranger things have happened... :)

    All the best,
    Andrew.

Too bad it was only 5, sould have been 50!!
Let's just hope the reds can last the whole race with no fires or smokin engines, if they can, then we will finally see how close we are to merc.....i think we have a chance for victory, and we really need it.

+1 this was a smart and early in-season move. LH was very very fast in Bahrain. This will add some excitement along with the rainy qualy predicted we have asked for!

If Hamilton messes up the start he will probably **** up the race, cause he tends to get trigger happy and then **** will happen.....but i agree, it was one of the best places for him to take the penalty....but passing both Ferraris and nico won't be easy.....thiss if he makes pole, if not he will be down in sixth....becaus ehe should alt leat be 2º in qualy...

Over 12 races, Ferrari are the most successful team with four wins:-

    2004 - Rubens
    2006 - Michael
    2007 - Kimi
    2013 - Fernando

    "Stranger things have happened"

Numerically year difference is 2-1-6, hence next number is 3 (Half of 6). 2013+3= 2016.

With those bad starts he's doing lately, it doesn't make a difference.

-I"d like Ferrari to finish 1-2 every race

-Based on only two races, if HAM starts 6th or so, we'll see him lose another spot or two off the grid, BUT, there will be an incident ahead in that curvy first turn, and he could easily move farther back or be in the top 3 right off the bat.

-From that point on, he could have to pass drivers like Ricciardo, a Williams, even GRO before getting to attack Ferrari and Rosberg.

-Either way it will be fun to watch

Good that will make the haters even more pissed off when he still wins it on Sunday.

Aah thats cute. Lewis has won 4 on his own. 2 in a Mclaren and Mercedes each.

There sure is a lot of wishful thinking going on in this thread!

For all anyone knows, Hamilton could just as easily make a fantastic start as he could make a poor start!

Yes, starting from 5th or 6th on the grid he could get caught up in a turn 1 incident, there again, anyone ahead of him could get involved in a turn 1 incident and hand the lead and race win to him.

Perhaps his engine might blow up on the way round to the grid - Ferrari style!

Perhaps he might trip over an untied shoe lace and knock himself out on the way to getting into his car for the race!

Perhaps he might have a mental breakdown and develop a fear of driving an F1 car!

Or maybe, just maybe he'll make an otherwise dreary race into a classic with some incredible overtaking!, Who knows? - Only time will tell!

Hamilton is going to be starting 6th assuming he is qualifying 1st. Don't be surprised if you see him starting 7th or 8th.

Yes, My mistake he can only start 6th or 7th at best (unless other penalties promote him back up the grid).

In keeping with a lot of other fantasy posts in this thread about what might happen though:

Perhaps he might start from the pit-lane behind everyone else to avoid a turn 1 incident, and really rub the other drivers noses in it by going on to win the race!

As I say, only time will tell what will happen!

Hamilton says it didn't have to do with the knock of Bottas.
Hamilton muss Getriebe wechseln: Vorentscheidung beim GP China? - Auto Motor und Sport

Thinking about it, it would be odd if such a knock into the side (and not into one of the wheels) would have any effect on the diff. When driving, they do quite violent stuff to their cars without causing damage.
A knock on the wheels is usually a different story.

Although we're trying to relax away from the huge bans, try not to deliberately antagonise people by hoping other contributors are going to be "pissed off". This isn't a great first post back.
