my understanding: - no Halo - standing start in rain (cruise around behind safety car if conditions are bad, but after safety car called in they will have a normal standing start) - no work on car after race red flagged (sound like Parc Ferme until restart) - More chit chat during the race allowed (hopefully no horrible driver coaching a la lift and coast 50 m etc)...
I think I read this brought up before. But what do you think of this scenario? You get points for qualifying, similar to the actual race but just not as many for pole, 2nd, 3rd etc. But as a result the fastest start in the back on race day. If they happen to win they can accumulate the qualifying points and the standard race points as the sporting regs grade now. Would make it interesting, that's for sure. I am sure there are pros and cons you guys on here would know better.
SEPTEMBER 13, 2016 Mercedes active suspension trick revealed The FIA and rival teams want to stop a rule loophole that explains some of the superiority of Mercedes' 2016 car. That is the claim of Germany's specialist Auto Motor und Sport, claiming the silver-clad team not only has the best engine in F1 but also the best chassis. The report said the Mercedes has an hydraulic roll and height control system - similar to the earlier 'Fric' concept that was banned - that cleverly uses the 'step' in the top of the chassis to mimic active suspension. For aesthetic reasons, this 'step' was allowed to be covered by a so-called 'vanity panel' after 2012, but it also gave Mercedes a place to house the system outside of the carbon tube. Correspondent Michael Schmidt said: "The other teams now recognise the trick and put it on the agenda for the technical meeting on the Tuesday after Monza." He added that the FIA would like to ban it shortly, but that would require the agreement of all the teams - including Mercedes - to change the 2017 regulations.
I always found no other car rolled as much in slow corners as the Mercedes. Clearly they were pioneering FRIC stuff so no surprise that they came up with other smart stuff. RBR is mentioned in the article that they poached a Mercedes suspension engineer and their rapid improvement this season may be due to them copying the Mercedes suspension. I wonder if FI is not doing something similar. http://www.auto-motor-und-sport.de/formel-1/mercedes-front-fric-chassis-trick-11538621.html
