In 2002, rules were changed (for 2003) in an attempt to stop Ferrari dominance. Ecclestone claimed that Ferrari dominance was ruining F1. It took a few years but eventually the rule changes, aimed at harming Ferrari succeeded. No one, including Ecclestone is saying that Mercedes dominance is ruining F1, so there have been no rule changes aimed at stopping Mercedes dominance.

Ferrari should just leave F1. The engines have no relationship to Ferrari road cars anymore. 1.6 liter turbo engine technology may help Mercedes for their road cars, but not Ferrari.

Even in 2003, Todt was aware of what was going on:

"13 October 2003 – Twelve months ago Formula One's ruling body changed the rules to revitalise the sport after Michael Schumacher and Ferrari had crushed the opposition in 2002.

A year on, Ferrari have secured a fifth constructors' title and Schumacher has claimed his record-breaking sixth world title.

The outcome may have been the same but changes to the qualifying system and points-scoring positions ultimately brought Formula One back to life and added interest and intrigue.

Both championship battles went down to the wire -- the exact intent of the changes -- and despite the season ending with familiar winners, it was hailed as a success.

Ferrari team boss Jean Todt was opposed to the rule changes and admits they made winning again this year a lot harder. "We probably did not get the best out of them in the beginning but then I think the wish was to make qualifying more unpredictable this year," he said. "This season it was much more competitive, it was much more difficult to achieve what we achieved and we had to wait until the last race before it came. It's hard to believe because we have been fighting so much so it will take a few days before we do realise it. All the team can feel proud of the job that has been done."

Not now after losing for so many years.

    Not ever IMO.

I don't think the rules are against them. I think they are against themselves.

Only losers give up ...... you are only truly beaten when you throw in the towel, something Ferrari has never done, which is why I support them :)

Their F1 operations must be worth Billion dollars or more
They get the biggest revenue cut from F1 than an other team
Why in God's world would they walk away

Yes, I think Ferrari should leave F1 .

They won everything now, and they should rest on their laurels with a record second to none.

Also, only Ferrari's departure will force F1 to reform.

Just because Ecclestone is not saying it week in week out he has said it a few times now.

    Leaving is pathetic.

The card shuffle when someone is winning too much is a tradition in Formula 1 almost as old as Ferrari. And now that everything relies on TV ratings the tradition is more alive than ever: they almost change the rules from one lap to another.

Leaving is not gonna solve anything. In fact, the rules, are not against Ferrari. The rules were made up by stupid people running the show aimed at improving their business and visions. Not the teams, and not the fans.

I mean, the first major blunder, is banning testing. It's like telling professional footballers they are not allowed to practice, but just show up at the actual game and play. That's unheard of.

The FIA also let the manufacturers dictate the type of engine rules, which spoilt the entire sport. Their focus on the manufacturers rather than the privateers are already killing the sport.

What's disappointing is the year was billed as a "Mercedes / Ferrari" fight and it's become a "Mercedes / Red Bull" fight -- and barely that

Correction Mercedes/Mercedes fight, another snooze fest of a year. Red Bull is doing better that is for sure, but it is all Mercedes again this year. I am really sick of the new crap Formula 1 post 2013. Hoping for a shake up in 2017, but not counting on it. It has been engineering porn, not racing since 2014. It needs to get fixed or the fans will not come back. If the fans stop caring does Ferrari really need to stay in F1 or should they go to WEC?

    Isobel already answered

Lambo has currently its own version of the Ferrari Challenge. Cute, incestuous and irrelevant

I don't mind a car manufacturer not winning in F1. As long as they are trying. Lambo WAS cool.
