Hello Everyone. My wife and I are traveling to Milan in may and want to take in the F1 race in Monaco. I see a bunch of packages for hotels and tickets. Has anyone been before and recommend places to stay or watch the race. Okay with a package, but kind of get the feeling the pricing is bloated. Can't stay in Monaco due to the cost, but any options around there include Nice, FR?

Thanks for any advice or tips.

I've attended the GP de Monaco every year since 1992, and have posted details here in prior years that still pertain. If you have specific questions after reviewing my earlier posts, let me know and I'll try to help.
And yes, buy tickets directly from ACM, as they have an interactive website that affords a pretty good idea of the precise location of the seats you're buying.

You might consider staying in either Cap-Ferrat or Cap-Martin. Both are a short distance from Monaco by train.

My girlfriend and I were in Monaco in 2014 (2013?) and stayed in Nice. Getting to and from Monaco was very simple and we loved the train ride each morning! They do make the return times from Monaco to Nice a bit less frequent I'm guessing to keep people in Monaco longer.

One thing we did to ensure that we got seats on the train was to book our hotel near a train station as well as a stop or two farther away from the Nice City Centre. The train fills up quickly and is about 30-40 minutes if I remember correctly.

PM me if you need any specifics.

Nice is easy - and take the train. what ever you do, don't try to drive into Monaco during the GP weekend... its TERRIBLE... and there is NO PARKING. Eze, and Cannes are also great places close buy.

you can take a helicopter in as well from Nice... right into Monaco - ville, or down to Fontville... or if the weather is really nice you can do a boat as well... but that is more for looks than real transportation.

Thanks All. Was originally looking for a suite with Hospitality but, compared to some other tickets, it's like a $900 per person - premium. I can't imagine the suite being $1,800 better.
I have a good package with 3 nights Hotel in Nice and grandstand K tickets on the harbor for Sunday for $1600 for everything. I mean IF is spend $400 on Champagne, Beer and Food during the race it would see excessive and I'd still be WAY cheaper? I realize it's Monaco and everything will be priced outrageously. but the suites just don't seem worth it. Any advice?

My friend was my guest speaker at a party on this topic since he went this year with his son.

They stayed at the hotel that overlooks the track-- Fairmont (?) and he said perfect place to stay but don't check in to hotel during race days. Thursday on the porters have to carry baggage by foot one mile to hotel.

Last time I was there was in the 90's so my info is dated, but did not find all the prices totally crazy... but it does add up. Monaco is not cheap on a non GP weekend... its like anywhere where he density is high - you pay for space and ease of use....

Jim, two weeks ago a friend and I bought a fully restored, rally-prepared 1952 Triumph TR2 and filed our application for entry in the 2017 Mille Miglia. As the Triumph factory ran two TR2's in the 1954 and 1955 Mille Miglias, both of which finished the race, we believe we have a fair chance of being accepted. If we are, we plan to do the Monaco GP that follows the Mille. Would be fun if a number of F-Chatters met up there. Might even be fun if any are visiting Brescia during the Mille.

My wife and I went to the Monaco F1 for our Honeymoon. We stayed in Nice at a nice apartment that we rented here:

Nice France Apartment Rentals - One bedroom

Rate was really good and if you stay in the Old Town you are close to everything.

Thanks everyone. More specifically on the VIP and Hospitality packages vs Grandstands. Has anyone experienced either? Surely the VIP and Hospitality options are great, but are they really work the premium? And Advice?

I spent crazy money on suites for Austin GP;( the most expensive race on the schedule according to Haas interview/article in Austin newspaper) it's over so quickly (race and weekend) that it's a coin toss as to whether the superb food and drink service(never stood in a line
) shade, comfort, and close limited view was much more satisfying.

For sure, I had to dig into savings acct. to pay that months AE bill. My answer is To myself is I did it once... and feeling good about it .

Plan to pay big time. During Grand Prix week, a glass of water at Jimmyz is 100 Euros. No joke. 100 euros. (A bourbon or a scotch is also 100 euros, so why not drink?)

I have been 8 times, and I'd suggest looking into AirBNB or some other service. Last time I went 2 years ago, I stayed at the Columbus and walked to the circuit.

Senate Grand Prix usually offers good package at fair pricings, we stayed many years at the Vista Palace Hotel and now moved to the Hermitage (for eyewatering pricing)

Rocher might be a bit like'camping' to the OP, i have done Novotel Nice Airport+Train + Rocher before ,depending on your circumstances it can leave you with a lot of $$$ left over to spend on whatever else you like.

But you need to get there early, like before sunrise,to get a decent spot, but its a good international atmosphere up there at Rocher no sign of bling bling at all,and you can see quite a bit of the circuit. .

You can still walk up the Casino and place a bet like anyone else after the practice /race.

    Horses for courses i guess!
