So today we start to discover who has what ,what is legal or borderline suspension/aero,how the tyres stack up ,of course we will see quite a bit of sandbagging in the first days, wondering what Ferrari Renault and Honda have actually got under the bonnet.

Hope someone can 'do a Brawn' and create a bit of excitement!

Vettel did set a 'purple' middle sector but backed off in the other two sectors.
Ericsson sets his first time of the day with a 1:29.527.
Hukenberg's run finally ends, he's now up to 17 laps for the day.

Were we expecting faster times so far? Given the morning chill, the choice of tyres and the acclimatization process all the teams and drivers are currently locked in, it's been pretty fast so far - but not spectacularly so

Steady timesheet improvement for Williams so far, with the retired-unretired Felipe Massa back into third with a best lap so far of 1:25.956.

Confirmation from Mercedes - and picture evidence below - that Bottas was on the soft tyres when he set his pacesetting 1:23.370 time. The Finn is now lapping in the low 1:24s having hit 35 laps for the day so far.

Four teams - Red Bull, Haas, Toro Rosso and certainly McLaren - will all surely have had quieter mornings out on track than they would have liked.

None of the four have yet reached 10 laps with their respective new cars.

Bottas closing in on 40 laps...

Ferrari imposed a news black out until Wednesday, so we won't hear from the drivers....

I'm anxious to see how many laps the Renault powered teams and Ferrari do compared to Mercedes. We won't know much on lap times, but more on how many laps (without fault) can be completed.

As they head into a nice pasta break Ferrari must be quietly pleased with things so far ..no big dramas and decent pace.

The Ferrari SF70-H is back circulating the Circuit de Catalunya again, with Sebastian Vettel, still on the medium tyres, lapping in the low 1:24s.

Or, at least he had been, as the German has just clocked a new fastest first sector of all...although the lap ends up a tenth adrift of his earlier 1:23.560 effort.

A new fastest time of the day...and it's that Mercedes W08 again.

Valtteri Bottas lowers his own benchmark to 1:23.169.

    yep

Sebastian Vettel has just lowered his personal benchmark by over half a second and gone quickest overall with a lap of 1:22.791

To put that lap in context, the fastest time in Barcelona testing twelve months ago was a 1:22.765 by Kimi Raikkonen!

And he's staying quick: Seb's next lap is a 1:23.011.

Confirmation, meanwhile, from trackside that the Ferrari is currently on medium tyres

Bottas is coming back out as we wind down towards lunchtime. In case you've forgotten: the session will be red-flagged for an hour from 12pm UK time to allow the field - and some hungry reporters - to get some grub.

It will then resume at 1pm and run until 5pm.

Pretty good start for Bottas, solid pace ,79 laps, more than race distance and hands the baton over to Lewis.I suspect MB will try to hold him back a bit though!

Really good for Seb so far,it's a long day for him.

Yep happy so far with Ferrari doing decent laps.

Sensor issue on the RB13 is a long fix due to the gearbox being in the way. Annoying.

    * Vettel set quickest lap on medium tyres, Bottas on softs
