"I ran the sport like a 5 Michelin star restaurant." I'm sorry Bernie, I am grateful for all you've done for the sport, but the sport has been like a restaurant that lost all its stars... From ESPNF1:
Ironic that he like the Michelin Star analogy when he was responsible to getting rid of the French GP.
Bernie, you've done a great service to the sport UP AND TO a certain point.....its time to bow out gracefully and let the new owners take it where it SHOULD go.
Time for new blood Bernie. Take your money and enjoy the rest of your life. You did pretty well for a used car salesman.
Like many entrepreneurs who get older, Bernie think he is still essential to the business he created. In fact, he has become an embarrassment now.
Michelin only gives 3 stars - or rosettes to be exact. so a 5 star Michelin does not exist even if Bernie wants it to. even the food at the paddock club is not that good.
I would like to erase the last 3 years of F1 from history. I know a Bernie hated the new PU as well, but it is now time for significant changes for F1 to move forward.
Gee, Bern, when you refer to the promoters as "the victims," maybe it kind of reveals your general attitude, and maybe - just maybe- the various people involved aren't all that appreciative of that. It's just a thought...carry on with your pity party. Maffei: I heard Bernie call grand prix hosts ?the victims? | GRAND PRIX 247
Yep he is not a very happy bunny for sure.At least he can live miserably in comfort. Bernie will be remembered for some good things and some not so good things ..bit like most of us . Good luck Bernie!
For all his wealth Bernie isn't very sophisticated. Five Michelin stars, indeed..... In my opinion BE is responsible for virtually everything that's wrong with F1 today.
He's done things that aren't right but he doesn't write the rules, that's the FIA. The FIA is very responsible for the state F1 is in at the moment. Bernie never should've gotten into bed with CVE. I do believe he's sensitive to the track owners not able to make a buck due to high fees. If it was Bernie running it alone I'm sure we'd still have the French GP (though it's coming back, at HIS track) and Imola etc. I also firmly believe if Bernie had a bigger say in the rules, we'd never have these rubbish engines. IMO Bernie should've realized the power of the internet a lot sooner. People want information and by using a proper app for iPad's and computer a lot of people would be watching. I've moved back to the UK and got Sky simply for F1, all in I pay £70 a month and don't even get the movie package with that. Sky TV used to be a lot better, pre Netflix-Amazon Fire. The amount of adverts (thankfully not during F1) is crazy (and the quality of them is shockingly bad). I'd be happy to stream and throw my Sky in the bin, but living rural I don't get quick enough internet to be able to stream. If Liberty would create an app with a similar to MotoGP videopass, and just be able to watch any race at any given time, that would be bloody great IMO. Watch current races, or of any years previous. They can do a charge by race thing for people not keen to buy a yearly pass, and again for the less fortunate charge less but have adverts.
Liberty may well destroy F1 as we know it if they don't move carefully. Bernie was Bernie for a reason, and he made a great success of F1. The recent state of F1 was caused by the interference of other parties, many of the problems Bernie himself neither caused nor agreed with. Careful what you wish for
However, Bernie dictated the sport. It could have also been much better if he didn't. I guess we will never find out because it belongs to the past. We can only hope for the best in the future.
He cashed out on top, not everyone gets to do that. But he's no spring chicken, and his worth was more tied to his position he created for himself. Not easy to wield so much power for so long and poof its gone
