Perhaps its time for F1 to split from the FIA; or time to Todt to hit the road. Todt: F1 has social responsibility, V8 return will never happen
Todt should take a p1ss. Completely useless president who is only more worried about polar bears than the state of F1 and the fans.
Last week he mentioned no V12 or V10, now the V8.... But he also said the current inability to get close to another driver and not having overtakes is worth the price of faster cars. Recall him. He's gone completely and utterly mad.

Repost. MARCH 22, 2017 Todt agrees V10 return unthinkable Jean Todt has joined fellow F1 boss Ross Brawn in saying a return of loud, normally-aspirated engines in the sport is "unthinkable". The volume, complexity and expense of the current 'power unit' technology has been controversial since its inception, and talks about the rules beyond 2020 are set to begin. But Brawn, who is F1's new sporting boss, said this week that going back to V8, V10 or V12 technology is "unthinkable". "However, we are thinking about the evolution of the hybrid engine," he said. Now, FIA president Todt has backed Brawn's prediction about the future of the F1 power unit. "Everybody's vision is to try to do better for formula one," the Frenchman is quoted by the German news agency SID. "We must think about new opportunities and innovations, and always look forward. But it is unthinkable to leave the hybrid engines -- the V10 and V12 of the past should stay in the past, even if it is unreasonable to spend money each year on new technologies," Todt added. The FIA chief also praised F1's new owners Liberty Media, even though the sport's long-time supremo Bernie Ecclestone has been ousted. "They have new ideas and are very professional, and will create new opportunities for communication," said Todt. "The new cars? I think we will see a good show. Bernie Ecclestone gave a lot to formula one, but he gained a lot as well. Now I hope that at 86 he is happy to see his child in good hands," he added. Finally, Todt spoke about the forthcoming FIA presidential elections, saying it is not a certainty that he will run. "If there are younger people who want my place I'll have to think seriously," said the 71-year-old.
He keeps moaning about road responsibility and relevance, why doesn't he order everyone to drive their hybrid against each other? Because that's true road relevance. Oh and also make sure no one drives faster than 70mph, unless we're at the German GP. He's a complete and utter total ****ing idiot, unfit for running the FIA. He was a great teamboss at Ferrari and before that at Peugeot.
FIA president Jean Todt says Liberty Media will not set F1 rules | Autoweek He's going on the offensive. What if they ''agree'' to the rules but Liberty makes a (secret) deal with the teams, and they all turn up with exiting engines? Is that captain fat fryer going to stop all the cars single handidly? What a cluster****.
Yeah, in GT class (but with turbos, of course). NA v8's aren't coming back in f1 (or prototype lemans or any other top class motorsport). NA motors aren't coming back, for that matter, and for good reason. They're no longer relevant in high end motorsports. How many prototypes were running NA motors at Lemans? F1 should have the latest, greatest technology, which right now is hybrid turbos. If F1 allowed NA v8's with the same fuel restrictions, do you think a single team would build one?
Agree - but here's the rub - many of my friends stopped watching F1 because it's connectivity with street legal cars has been lost. To them it has become aeroplanes with wheels. Many have switched to watching Moto GP and have bought bikes as a result. I am talking hardcore Tifosi here, as opposed to passive viewers. There was great value through the marketing chain in watching a V12 in the hands of Alesi in Sunday's GP, and then jumping into your own V12 Ferrari after the race.
Of course not, and that's a stupid question. Teams (try) to compete for the win, and employing an NA V8 with the same amount of fuel...well they won't be able to finish the race will they.
Todt sounds like a guy that would fit right in with a job at the EPA. Maybe he should be future endeavored.
Brawn said it best recently when he stated F1 should absolutely not be totally relevant to productions vehicles. Some relevance should be there, but the pinnacle of motorsports has no need to kowtow to the ice measurers of the world regardless of their political sway
Right, but it does need to be attractive for engine manufacturers to want to participate. To me, you achieve that by being the "pinnacle" of competitive motorsport, and having an engine formula that doesn't cost a medium-sized country's GDP to develop and produce.
yes it should be ahead. Tech used to come from aerospace, then appear in F1, then filter down to road cars. All that is there. Complex drive drain, break by wire, highly efficient down-sized engine, energy recuperation, carbon fibre... that all is/will be the future of road cars. Initially of high end road cars, increasingly of standard road cars, perhaps at reduced expense/complexity.
