Looks like a short and bitter-sweet ride for Gio at Sauber. http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/128918/wehrlein-gets-green-light-for-bahrain-return
Pascal Wehrlein takes aim at injury critics on return at Bahrain GP | F1 News Pascal Wehrlein says critics of his decision not to race at the season's first two races were speaking without knowledge of his injuries, as the Sauber driver prepares to return in Bahrain this weekend.
He caused millions of dollars worth of damage in his first or second race. Most importantly in the same area ... a racing driver is supposed to learn from their mistakes, not repeat them until no car is left! He definitely has hurt his resume IMO. Pete
No argument on the resume part, but the second crash was not his fault. He probably hit a patch of water and was a passenger.
According to the UK's Channel 4 coverage of Free practice one today, sources have said that Wehrlein suffered three fractured vertebrae in his ROC crash. Because of that, he wasn't able to train and the muscles that attach to the vertebrae became badly weakened, preventing him from driving the car.
Cut that guy some slack. Even seasoned champions manage to find their way into a wall every now and then under 'normal' conditions.
