Which Ferrari makes the best engine Noise? The F12 Berlinetta and Ferrari 250 GTO are my personal favorites. Which Ferrari do you think have a best sound?

    The Daytona.

There was an article in one of the magazines years ago, either Road and Track, Car and Driver, or Motor Trend, that did a scientific analysis of engine noise. They had some sort of graphs and the Daytona's was just perfect.

I have a few short sound clips, but I can't compress them down enough to meet the requirements to attach them. :(

You almost have to distinguish between the vintage cars with carbs and mild steel exhausts, and modern cars with high-tech injection systems and exotic material headers. They all sound so great in totally different ways, it's like grouping Mozart and the Beatles together when asking who was most influential in music.

    Modern
    Best V8: F355 with a Tubi
Best V10-12: 599 GTO street, any Schumacher V10s

    Vintage:
    Best V12: Daytona, street; 330 P4, race (250 GTO a VERY close 2nd).

    Those are all quite good.

The mechanical melody of the vintage GTO does stir the soul like few others can.

I have a completely stock 355 right now and had one with a Nouvolari muffler and high flow cats a few years back. The stock one sounds good but the Nouvolari one was incredible. I passed some people in a Gallardo under a bridge once and they made a point of tracking me down at the next light to tell me my car sounded "off the hook".

I tried to capture the sound of my old one on video but it just doesn't work. No video sounds like they do in person. I've tried high end mics all over the car to no avail.

The only cars I've heard in person that sound as good or better than a modded 355 are the F12, Lambo V12s and the Carrera GT. I don't believe I've ever heard a Daytona in person though.

I loved my 355 (Spyder) especially in a highway overpass.

However, my 360 CS was a beast. I owned it for only a very short time, and it was a coupe, as is my 550 PFB. The Coupe didn't give me the same sensation. I did own an F-50 for a short time, too, and that car was kept in Europe, so I drove it for less than 5,000-6,000 miles. But when that thing was at about 6,000 RPMs, there was no better sound on earth--especially in some of the tunnels of Europe.

The only problem with the F-50 sound is that it is best under full acceleration and it is impossible to accelerate for more than a few seconds--you soon run up on traffic and must lift off the pedal.

I have heard the 550 and 575 with a Tubi and, outside those cars, the sound is intoxicating.

Sorry for the above error. I meant to type that a 550 is a coupe, and even though it has a V-12, it is hard to hear the sound, which is why I like the 550 PFB. I got distracted by the phone while writing this and didn't multi task very well.

The V-12 in the open air is a wonderful sound.

Vintage, any of the race trimmed V12s, so we'll say 250 GTO for posterity. Modern, it has to be the the F50 which, when coupled to straight pipes, has a multi-layered texture and tonality that evokes some of the spirit of the old V12s. Closely followed by the F355 for its shrieking V8. The new stuff just doesn't have the musicality of the cars of this era, and instead sound a bit harsh and less pleasing to the ear.

These are amazing live, but I think the orig idea here is production cars. But as far as sportscar racers 333's own it

Surprised nobody threw the lowly carb'd 308 out there...I'd say the GT4 Dino variety but I may be biased

Probably the exhaust from my 430 and my screaming wife telling me to slow down as I hit triple digits on the speedo. I love it!
