Momo Steering Wheel used on the 512BB through the 1970s, late Dino 246 models, the 365BB GT4 and the Dino 308 GT4. Rare and original. Very hard to find. If you care about originality, then here is your chance. Accepting offers.

The Dino used more than one type of steering wheel.

What is the date code on the back of the steering wheel?

Can you post a picture of the back of the steering wheel. The date code should be on the center spoke above the "Made in Italy" or on the left spoke. If the wheel is earlier than 1977 it should not have a date code on it. I was told by a Momo distributor that they didn't put dates on the wheels until 1977. Being that I don't believe that the distributor was even born by 1977 this could be a myth. although, I have checked a small sample of steering wheels and the Momo distributor's statement appears to be true.

From Newman in the Boxer Buyer's Guide:

"-proper steering wheel - Momo silver wheel is expensive and hard to find for carb'd cars. Look for 3 straight spokes on 512 or 365, not the 2 upper spokes that swoop down after leaving the center hub like a 308."

There is a subtle, yet distinct difference in the two steering wheels described by Newman. Both steering wheels styles from Momo are stamped Made in Italy along with a model number underneath until perhaps late 70s, as I believe I have seen a 308 GTB/GTS wheel stamped with a date beginning in perhaps '79, which replaced the model number, but still had been stamped with Made in Italy, but I cannot remember for sure. Also, that was the curved spoked steering wheel. Someone with 100% certainty their Boxer car has the original steering wheel would have to confirm otherwise.

There are also 308 GTB/GTS wheels said to be reproductions that lack the code on the back of the steering wheel and are only stamped Made in Italy, along with Momo on the front. Many believe those are reproductions.

Some say the correct steering wheel, pictured above, were specifically designated for Ferraris as indicated by both the Momo stamp on the front and the Made in Italy AND model number stamped on the back, but it is unlikely they were ONLY designated for Ferraris/Dinos, because this code has been seen on Momo steering wheels used on Porsches and other high end cars of that era. Either way, the code is what many people believe ensures it was a genuine Momo steering wheel, which in turn, means it was how Ferrari delivered the car originally.

Boxers changed steering wheel styles somewhere around 1980, starting with a line of race car driver signatures on the bottom spoke and then switched to Nardi steering wheels, etc.

The wheel pictured here, from my experience, was used on the 365BB, 512BB until sometime in the late 70s, was also seen on late model Dino 246 cars and the Dino 308 GT4.

I am sure there are people more qualified than me to answer these questions with more certainty. I will post a picture of the back of the wheel below.

Cruising RM's wonderful website I was able to find multiple examples showing this type of wheel on the above mentioned cars. I will attach some pics.

So, it appears fairly clear this type of steering wheel began on the Ferrari 365BB And Dino 246 in 1974 and was used on the design iterations (512) that followed up until 1979.
