Gave up on locating Dino Valve covers to be used as wall decorations, so decided to make
a mould and produce a prototype.

We sealed the distributor opening, cam covers openings, and the complete bottom.
Will have better photos once painted.

It does not look very good as it is the first one, but I believe it will look very nice,
even better with studs and acorn nuts.

It will have to be painted as gelcoat does not work very well in this case, silver gray.

Please tell me what you think, I would appreciate your critique and ideas...

    Happy New Year to all!

    Regards, Alberto

Crinkle coat red might hide a lot of little flaws.

Good idea, it was a thought, but originality would suffer, so it will be filled in where imperfections exist and properly painted the original color.

Besides, here no one sells wrinkle finish :)

I am glad you like it Andres...

Great idea! I've unsuccessfully been looking for wall art covers for years.
Maybe it's camera angle, but the lower bank looks a little bowed in the picture.
I would consider some kind of u shaped steel insert for reinforcement and to help prevent fiberglass warpage.

Good to hear from you Jon, and Happy New Year.

Strictly the camera angle, the piece is as straight as an arrow.

Do you think there might be some interest in the replicas?

I do think there would be an interest in Dino wall art valve covers. I also think you might have an even larger market if you made some replicas from your Daytona. I'm pretty sure I have seen that one done before using aluminum casting.
    :)

Great idea Andres, nowadays they can make anything, but the issue is,

large quantities required to defray cost of machine + know how... =$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

It is easier this way and my guys have work, and put food on their table :)

The Daytona cam cover would be an impressive item to replicate,
as pretty massive looking, that's for sure!

Thank you all for the opinions, really appreciate them!

    Regards, Alberto

Jon, the tough one about a Daytona cam covers, is they are two covers per bank. Possibly, the effect might not be as cool.

Perhaps make a (fake) mould that would appear to be more or less similar to the one in the photo posted by Scott,
a united cover out of the two parts. Something almost 3 feet in length...

That, might make the moulding process a bit more difficult...certainly not a problem, right?

    Happy New Year!

The only adornment I have in my bare garage are cam covers, Alberto, so we think alike. I have the different versions of the Lotus twincam cover, seen here, and farther away, the Dino cam covers. The Dino covers I found problematic to mount, as they are not the same length. I have nothing else on my walls!

I found some companies here that might do 3D printing, which is why I thought of that option. But you are right; it is more satisfying to do the job and provide some employment (and teach some skills).

    Warm regards,

    Andres

The covers I have are probably magnesium so need to be painted, so I shiny red some time ago. They add some color to my austere garage. I found some VHT wrinkle finish, so I might change the covers to black or red wrinkle. By the way, VHT and some other manufacturers make a very convincing aluminum metal finish that might be good on your project, Alberto.

My covers came with two holes on the timing chain, so I covered these aith a plate I had handy. These covers will not win any concours awards.

This is a great thread. I've long been collecting covers for future use as wall art. A really nice one is from a Peugeot 405 Mi16...it's a magnesium unit by Stihl with 16v written into it. I have a few Alfa Busso V6 covers...and a few Nord covers.

I got the idea years ago from a friend who had a Cosworth DFX cover on his wall. I'd love to have a Ferrari V12 cover and a Cossie DFV.

All in all this is a great thread! I love to see what others are doing with this.

I did purchase the above 250 V12, thank you for the tip Jon!, so eventually, we'll see a copy made up.

Right now we are making an Alfa Romeo GTAm cam cover, an extremely rare piece that I have had for 30 years or so.

Will show a proto when things happen.

Very interesting project, Alberto. I assumed you just wanted Dino cam covers. There should be a market for those cam covers.

I had not looked at a GTAm cam cover closely. Different from the standard versions then?

My fiberglass guy is running out of things to make, and thanks to all the gracious purchases the 'aficionados' have made, he has improved his life vastly, sent his kids to a private school (read: safe) and is being justly rewarded for his hard work.

Andres, you live in the 3rd world and know perfectly well what that means...

So now, we are trying to find new projects, and the valve covers seem to be a viable
product as a wall decoration, without spending too much on an original piece. Not bulky,
and easy to carry in a suitcase. Then, if well made, much more affordable than the real item.

How many 250 V12 covers are available out there?

As an idea, my GTAm valve cover is worth at least $1,000 +, if you could find one. It is an extremely rare piece, and as you ask, it is used on a narrower head than normal AR used, only on a racing motor and even if you have the motor and no cover...it is a difficult, albeit doable, proposition for an extremely limited market.

I have two originals and one complete motor, would never sell any of it as they go on an original 'Autodelta' factory race car.

If anyone has ideas of other 'replicable valve covers, please fire away!

Possibly, per Brian's brilliant idea on the Cossie cover, I might be able to locate a damaged one at Phil Reilly's in California.

Alberto, when you have time, can you post a photo af the GTAm cover? I will show to the local Alfisti, who will love that.

Yet, I understand what you say about giving jobs. It is tough for most to pull out from poverty, and the problem Is made worse by a burgeoning population.

    kind regards,

    Andres
