I am selling my 1975 Ferrari / Dino 308 GT4. It is in decent condition. It does not have a complete history although it has some documentation. It runs and drives. It has 44,495 miles. I have owned it for nearly 8 years and 4,033 miles. As my family and farming responsibilities have increased, I've found significantly less time available for the Dino. So I've decided to sell it.

Perhaps this description is harsh, but I do not like learning things after I've purchased a car, so I will attempt to be open and honest about the condition of the car as I understand it (especially the negative aspects).

    Negatives:
*Needs new tires. I've been driving on these in dry conditions as-is for a while, but the rears are worn past the wear marks.
*Rear seat belts need to be replaced (right side works, though)
*Passenger seat belt works but has tape holding the button on
*Drivers door latch is missing plastic liner (have parts that should work to repair)
*Passenger door sags (have new pins that should work to repair)
    *Clock appears foggy
*Fuel and oil pressure gauges sometimes stick at "0"
*2nd and 4th syncros are worn (patience and appropriate shifting techniques avoid any grinding)
    *Some rust bubbles exist
*The engine sometimes "clicks" when cold. Suspect tuning will help.
    *Choke cable does not work
    *Choke knob is missing
*Drivers seat track seems slightly worn
*Leather is splotchy in places, could be re-dyed
*Carpet is faded, newer floor mats do not fit directly
*Drivers side foot rest cover is missing
*Heat appears to be "on" or "off" without progressive controls
*A/C does not currently work, but is complete
*Headlights seem to have weak connections (periodically a beam will turn off and then back on)
*Headlight switch is delicate. It works but it will need repair at some point.
*1 wingnut is missing from the air cleaner cover
    *Front grill is wavy
*1 wheel center cap is missing (fell off on my last drive)
*Rear seat is not bolted down
*Drivers door button does not fully function (door light does not always light and door open buzzer does not always activate)
*Drivers seat padding is a little weak
*Mirrors do not appear to be original
*Fuse box covers fit but do not match fuse positions (i.e., two left fuse covers)
*Paint has some cracking and could use a good wax application
*Timing light cover is missing (but I have a new one that will require stud replacement)
*Some of the round vents are faded, and some are missing the bar that holds the vent fins parallel
    *Windows work but are slow
    *Tool set is incomplete
*Trunk lid could use adjustment to match engine lid

    Notable maintenance / repair:
*Timing belts were replaced and the engine tuned by Continental Auto Sports in Hinsdale, IL 3 years ago.
    *Radiator re-cored ~6 years ago
*Speed sensor replaced ~4 years ago
*Most of the fuel lines have been replaced
    *Thermostat replaced ~4 years ago
    *Reverse lockout repaired
*Fuel pump replaced ~6 years ago

    Modifications:
    *MSD 6A ignition
    *Fiberglass bumpers
    *Aftermarket Momo steering wheel
    *Speedline 16x7 and 16x8 et11 wheels
    *Reupholstered trunk
    *Stebro exhaust
*Some sort of aftermarket audio system was installed

    Additional Parts List:
    *Original bumpers
    *Original Cromodora spare
*Original plastic cover for spare area
    *New door hinge pins
    *Some door latch hardware
*Cloth 308 GT4 car cover that needs some repair
*Set of 16" period BBS Mesh [magnesium] Wheels w/ Kumho Victoracer V700 225x50Z R16 (Would consider selling separately to reduce price or if another buyer is interested)
*Some Baldwin oil filters and spare Castrol GTX 20W-50 oil

I will not drive the vehicle once salt is on the road. I realize that may be soon, but will post when it does happen.

The car is located in Ashfield, MA.

    I am asking 29,000 obo.

I will share my phone number and email through PM if interested.

    Thanks,
    Chris

Chris, can you tell us more about the fiberglass bumpers, are they aftermarket or home growned?

A previous owner had them installed in 2000. Although I have seen other examples with this style bumper, it appears they were custom made by Karosserie in King of Prussia, PA. I cannot clearly read the entire receipt, but it says:

"Remove US bumpers, weld holes from US bumper side extensions. Set up new fiberglass euro bumpers... fabricate + install bumper tubular reinforcements. Bond to insides of force bars. Align and install. Set up and semi gloss bumpers... $5,266.61"

I love those cars and would love to add that to the garage but my wife would kill me. Good luck with the sale.

Your car looks great in black.

IMHO, the shape of the 308 GT4 continues get more beautiful over the years.

A little bit of TLC and this car would be quite the catch.

Good luck with the sale Chris - our cars must be pretty close - mine is s/n 10402? yours?

Its been mentioned before elsewhere but this car would be one of the few with silver-gray hood grilles (rather than black).

It happened. They salted the roads today. That means the car will not leave the driveway until after heavy rains in the spring (unless someone buys it first).

guygowrie - we're not that far apart, but I'm hesitant to post the S/N publicly.

My asking price is more realistically $25,500 obo (without the BBS wheels).

I'm asking $1,800 for the BBS mesh wheels (I am still looking for other examples to guide pricing up or down).

I inflated my asking price to help account for large negotiations (I've clearly been spending too much time on craigslist). After some PM discussions, I realize it would be more helpful if the asking price was more realistic.

As far as documentation, perhaps I was a little harsh. It was originally sold to me as having "a complete service history" and there are a lot of records in the file. I'll try to share more in another post.

Here are two old pictures I enjoy (the day I got took delivery and the first drive after that winter):

Great 2nd pic here-also, the pics of the trunk make mine look like I stored tools in it for years-probably because I've stored tools in it for years! Car looks great. GLWS

I think your price is fair. 308 prices have been going up slowly but steadily. Best of luck with the sale.

The rust areas I have found are at the base of the wheel wells. I attempted to take pictures that show it as clearly as possible (It seems to be reasonably challenging). I'll try to break the information down into multiple posts so the descriptions can fit with the images more easily.

The Dino has been garaged (between drives) in this spot for over 2.5 years. The floor was not in excellent condition to start, but this picture should help illustrate how much it does or does not leak (depending on your perspective).
