Sold new at Ron Tonkin, still has the license frame! As you can see this one in the other ad today, here's a better look. This is a low miles, three owner car, the mileage indicated on this car IS correct. Unique color, but sadly the paint on this car has also failed. Also, from the Pacific NW, it has more corrosion than the other 1976 car. To properly fix this paint I'm afraid the glass will have to come out, at least the front windshield. So, quite a project. This car also needs a clutch, timing belts and bearings, and some attention to the braking system. It does have a new ANSA exhaust... And a new battery, thanks to Greg328!!! Best offer by the end of the month, and I won't sell to a Ferrari newb!!! $50K to 60K so far, for both cars...if I could sell the 1976 for a good price I would be tempted to do this renovation myself, due to the low miles and continuous history. Dealers and resto shops are circling of course....
The mechanic tearing them down, was amazed at the originality of the cars. All the carb bushings in the air box, the original knurled knobs, and so forth. These were going to be my own retirement projects, before our current economic climate. Retirement is cancelled!!
Maybe I could go back out, and get him to sign it! I did run across him in a golf cart at COTA every now and then ...
That was a happy day! Probably should have married that girl when we passed thru Las Vegas, but at least we didn't die going off the cliff in Yosemite!! She has put me thru a lot, since then.. This car has put me thru a lot, since then.... I really hope to sell the older #20405 first, then take a deep breath and think about it all. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Sad I guess, that clocks and calendars only run one direction... I hear my dear old friend's voice: "The Ferrari only knows it's broken, it doesn't know it's expensive to fix!" JRV (R.I.P.) That whole trip would have made an epic magazine article, thanks Les Hodel, for saving this car all those years and then selling it on to me!
If I had the cash in hand I'd help you out. I'm really sorry to see this car go. Do you still have the yellow 308?
This is becoming my favorite color combination, it would be great to bring this one all the way back.
Valeria said Les and I looked like two fighter pilots, discussing the various service aspects of the battery, fueling, spare tire....waving our arms, and hand gestures! Then we went to the Hardware Store for a few fire extinguishers... There's a series of pictures. I shot five rolls of film of that four days, 2,400 miles, never digitized but a few of them. She was so beautiful on that trip (not the car).. I got cranky and made her cry, six BLOCKS from our house. I'm an idiot.....sleeping in a rolling 308GTB all night will do that...
New interior pictures, it will clean right up! Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
That fairly rare factory blue carpet was used as an example for 'ALeventhal's' 512BB Boxer restoration. It is beautiful in any blue Ferrari. Blue is a calming influence, and believe me, I need all the "calming" I can find!
I shouldn't be looking at these, it's making me think "the rust, it's not SO bad....." Original wheels on this car are perfect, the FCA Judge, at the Ferrari French Quarter Classic, commented on them...and the dirt all over the car...
I was just talking to a buddy about the fellow in Houston with 3 308s. Good luck to you Sir. I think the car I saw was your third.
I saw both 308's in person, both full restoration projects, engine leaking , bad interiors, lots of rust, and of course, when you start to disassembly, the real surprises, will appear, sadly seems that cars had been a long period outdoors, an offer was made, but also seems that no titles... Oh boy ! this are for someone, that has all the time in the world and willing to put lot of $$$$$ , not for the faint of heart... beside that you will need to spend $$$$$$ and lot of patience, both are not a great color combo. I know, all cars has their fans, but blue is not as majestic as a red car ! On the bright side, the Specialist in charge to change the pump on the red car, to make it run, is a super nice guy, and he really knows Ferraris, son if you need a great guy, to work in your car in the Austin area, he is the one ! .
You need to go read my ad again. It says, in there, that the #22641 car is "blue"? It says in there "windshield will need to come out, for repaint"??? This is an original 3 owner car, with 38K original documented miles. Blessed by Mario Andretti, at NO additional cost (see my Profile here)! I can put some Andretti wine, in the trunk! I don't think it leaks oil, I will go back and make sure? Thanks for playing!
