Hi all....I am offering up my '88 TR to fchat members first, before I open it up to the public later this month. The car is immaculate, an absolute joy. In full disclosure I am a dealer in Maryland and this is one of PERSONAL cars. I purchased this car to add to my collection, but with the current values going nuts, the businessman in me has me taking it to market. If it sells for my mental minimum then great, if not then I will hang onto it. The car is fully documented from a copy of the original MSRP label, to the buyer's order from its 1st resale in 1989 for $220K! YES $220K....to the most recent service (and full inspection) that Richard, at Competizione (our local Ferrari specialist in Gaithersburg, MD), just completed. The last major belt service was done June 2010 at Foreign Cars Italia in NC. Positives: car checks out great ALL books, tools, extra fuses, even original TR brochure 14k original miles Full service history, recalls done original sony stereo clean carfax, clean autocheck Original paint...bright and turns heads everywhere!(front lid, roof, and top of driver's door have been touched up or painted) Great tires wheels have no scuffs carpets are perfect all orginal mechanically, including original exhaust ALL 6 pieces of original Testarossa luggage Red satin Ferrari seat covers and wheel cover 3 keys (2 original and 1 enzo key cut for a TR) Have extra orginal black rear emblem Car drives amazing, starts right up, shifts great, clutch is perfect Negatives: AC doesn't blow very cold Clock is inop (however bought a 2nd and Palo Alto speedo is fixing it) Dash leather has the typical shrinkage, and seats have been dyed..a great job however Aftermarket shields and chrome emblem on front and rear (although alot of people love the chrome as do I!) That is it in a nutshell.....I am very transparent in my business and hope I have given you enough information to make a decision if you would like to pursue this. We are all very busy in today's market, so please ONLY SERIOUS inquiries. You can reach me via cell at 703-906-6408, call or text, or my email is [email protected] I am happy to provide lots more pics and docs. Just a suggestion - might want to market it as an 88.5 - you have 5 lug wheels. 88s still had the single lug a'la 87 and before.
have a look at the driver seat backrest - this you mean is immaculate??? this is long ago. get knowledge what F says about timing belt change if only 14k miles than the owner has been a 130 kg or more driver? when has been the last? so not only an oil change ! ! ! if you would be transparent then you would do a better desricption from the car. also more pictures ( without photoshop work ) also you would post this car for to sale not in this thread. for selling there is an extra thread so sorry please to tell you: typical unknown dealer posting with no serious description thinking to make big money in short time
Probably want to put the actual content of the post in the For Sale forum rather than here. I'd also avoid cropping out the bolster wear, most people here are savvy enough to see through sales tricks like that (or at least I hope they are)
So in conclusion we have an 88.5 TR for sale that 1. Has dash shrinkage 2. Needs Belt Service 3. Needs A/C work 4. Probably Tires 5. Seats re-dyed - driver seat done like sh*t. but you think it was done great... OK.. R
Tough crowd!! Ok, it needs some leather work, and a service. most 88.5s are at that point now... You can charge the AC as the engine goes back in, from the belt service. Includes the luggage!
What people try to sell. Mine is all original and like Robbie noted on this one, has the dash shrinkage also. My seats are better and overall is as good if not better. Better to figure all the goodies needed to put it right. Did this thing come with any Dave Helms updates or is one another potential fire hazard?
So......has anyone verified (through the directories) that this car is owned by this person? Just checking. Perhaps since he is a Rookie, he's not sure where to post things.......etc. Overall, its not bad for the age and mileage. Perhaps more details are photos are needed. Addressing the concerns noted in this thread would be a good thing...... I too have an 88.5, Rosso Corsa/Tan, with low miles (<17k). I am lucky enough to have zero dash shrinkage (so far!). Just had major service done at Sport Auto (Steve Barney and the fabulous Tom Jones). I'll be watching to see if this one sells and for how much........
Wow tough crowd indeed. I however asking top dollar belt service should be done. A full disclosure of pictures and explanations would help as already said. I will ask the rest of the forum how can one tell there is "Dash Shrinkage" with what is shown?
Def a tough crowd...lol Makes one think that transparancy is a bad thing, perhaps it is better to hide the flaws and not be upfront about them? Some of the comments are rather humourous however...so thanks for the enjoyment! On a serious note..... I've posted this here as an opportunity before I go marketing this car in full "retail" mode. The pics I took on my Iphone and posted here real quick to gauge interest, the car is not even detailed. In response to a couple questions....the car was just fully inspected, serviced, and checked out in April 2015. Only issues are the ones stated above. The Ferrari shop did run dye in the AC system to see if there are any leaks and what the issue may be, I've been driving the car to let the dye run through. The dash shrinkage is above the instrument cluster, glove box, and near the vents closer to the windshield. Nothing too ridiculous, but I am a perfectionist and would fix it and redo the leather on the dash if I kept the car. The driver's seat bolster had wear that the dye has covered up, and yes they did a great job, you have to see it in person to appreciate it. Nothing is photoshoped except for my tag number on the back photo. Tires are near new, they do not need to be replaced. As for the belt service, our local F shop recommended to wait as he felt that the belt service was not necessary at this time, the car has been driven 3k miles since the last belt service. If I keep it I will do the belt service and have the ac fixed around the same time. Either way we are talking about $7-10k worth of work on an investment that will appreciate much more than that over the next year, plus anything additional you would do with the leather. Finally, thanks for the emails and calls.....looks like this one will sell rather quick. I'll update when possible.
While I agree he needs to post more pics, some of you are pretty harsh. The seat does look like a hot mess. That is not what I would call a pristine redye on the bolster by any stretch but the engine bay looks clean from the one pic. George, I would venture to say that most probably less than 1% of Testarossa's have had the differential done. Also, IMHO there are positives and negatives to the Gold Connector kit as has been previously debated. There is another TR being advertised here with a salvage title as a result of a "minor fender bender" in a parking lot....I'm not sure what the story is with that car but no one gives him a hard time because he is a member in the TR section. This poor guy tries to advertise his car here and most of you have the pitch forks and torches out.
I like a positive criticism which unfortunately doesn't exist here. The funny thing is that most of the fchatters that posted all these negative comments are not even interested or looking in buying a TR. If you have nothing good to say better not say anything. Good looking car. GLWS
One may wish to consider that some of those posting have or had a TR. Some have been fully developed both cosmetically and mechanically. While some may consider the posts harsh, you may want to understand that for the price being asked, the car is not measuring up to the standard that the price reflects. Any Dave Helms modifications not only enhance the value, but also reduce the hazard to fire or other situations that could reduce the car to rubble. Take all things into consideration in relation to this vehicle and you may find the harshness is somewhat justified.
Whos is being harsh. We are just getting to the point.. Sorry it does not come with a little fluff.. I think it looks like a nice car for someone to buy.. for me I just don't like the little tap dance around some of the issues the car has.. The vibe I got was a little tap dance.. that's all.. I agree.. to get top dollar I would have done the service already.. but some like myself prefer to do the service by their guy so they can be confident in what and how it was done.. Good luck with the sale.. R
I disagree with this comment.. Get the stick out of your butt.. TR section doesn't like BS.. Stop worrying about who is interested in buying a TR and also being concerned if members have anything good to say.. Its a forum.. We say our opinion. I think the sales add is ok with exception to the little tap dance.. So what we are calling him out on the dance.. Everyone is so sensitive.. How do you define immaculate? Not clean.. not preistine.. not mint.... but immaculate.. Let me help.. Immaculate | Definition of immaculate by Merriam-Webster Now you see the little tap dance? No big deal.. I'm the a**hole now.. right.. as always.. R
Considering the pictures of your former "b*tch", I would say with some confidence......this isn't your TR and with your statement in regard to tap dancing, I would agree. Knowing the product and its faults, is reason enough to determine that a properly developed product brings more value for one reason......peace of mind.
One thing I have learned over the years on this site is using words like "immaculate" is generally a bad idea. I do think in general the car presents itself well. While I am planning on a TR purchase in the near future I'm not quite ready yet and I'm hoping for something other than red.
In any community, the new guy is the odd man out unfortunately. With that said, a dealer selling a TR for top dollar in need of service with paintwork and an embellishment or two.......well....the community has spoken. The price reflects a condition 1 car on the Haggarty Valuation chart. By the sellers own account, this is not a condition 1 car. Tough crowd, I think fair crowd is more like it. We called out the inconsistencies that were visible from the photos provided. If you are going to post up a car for sale, the condition better be constant with the asking price.
Only one thing, if you need a valuation chart to show you what to pay for a car in what condition, this world is not ment for you. Sorry!
