1985 Ferrari Testarossa VIN: ZFFSA17A8F005795 Mileage: Just under 42,500 Price: $95,000 Color: Black exterior with Beige and brown 2 tone interior Location: Loma Linda, CA (about 1 hour from LAX) Photos of the car are here: https://goo.gl/photos/c5URaeKqCLapNFmo8 Photos of the engine out service I performed are here: https://goo.gl/photos/h5fYXC4jNKGmxFuu9 Carfax report: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0BxVKmDV_zUJHM2ZPUEh3ajcxRHc/view?usp=sharing I had always wanted a black Testarossa since I got the September 1986 issue of Car and Driver as a teenager. It had a gorgeous redhead on the cover...and a black single mirror Testarossa too! I finally realized my dream two years ago, and while I love to look at it, I find that I just don't drive it much compared with my 1988 BMW M3 and 1977 Porsche 930. I have a clean California title in my name with no liens. Less than 1500 Testarossas were produced with the original single mirror design, and only 421 were US models. This is one of only 121 first year 1985 model US Testarossas, and only a handful were black. This is a sharp collector car that you can still really enjoy driving. Vehicle History Not much is known about the car's 1980s history. Car was exported from Virginia to Germany during the late 80s Ferrari boom and was owned by a German architect from 1992 until 1999. In 2000, the car was brought back into the US and sold to the previous owner who kept it in Colorado for 13 years. From 2005 until 2013, he only drove it a handful of times to prevent deterioration. I've owned the car since 2013. Body The car is very straight and has never been in an accident that I or the previous owners know about. * The car looks great from a few steps back (A friend commented that it was as glossy as his Steinway piano) * There are rock chips and small flaws in the paint typical for a 41,000 mile Ferrari. * My paint meter shows 4-6 mils on most panels (original paint), and there is no evidence of repainting. * The left rear quarter panel has been repainted and shows 10-12 mils. It was an excellent job and there is no obvious evidence it was painted except the paint meter reading. I don't have records of any paint or body work. * There is an obvious paint blend in a foot long section of the rear quarter panel just above the right rear wheel (see pics). You can't see it except in certain light conditions, and you cannot feel it with your fingers. Paint on that quarter panel reads 4 mils all over, so it appears to be a touch up from a scratch. * There is a small crease in the right rear fender just above the taillight. You really have to look at a certain angle to see it and I could not get a good photo of it. * Doors, hood, and trunk open and shut well and have good shut lines. * The underbody, rocker panels, and fender wells still have all of the original undercoating. * Rubber seals are original but in good condition. * All original Ferrari windows with no cracks or chips. * There is a small crease in the right rear fender just above the taillight. * Front spoiler has been scraped and touched up as is typical for driver Testarossas. * There is no rust anywhere. * Lights and lenses are excellent Interior It is overall in very good condition for the age and mileage, and shows very nice. * It has all the original leather and has never been redyed or touched up. * Door panels, steering wheel, headliner, and rear leather work are excellent. * Seats are in very good condition, but there is a little wear on the drivers bolster. * Carpet is original and shows wear typical of the age and mileage. * From the drivers seat the dash leather looks good, but you can see shrinking leather (a common Testarossa problem) when looking in from the top of the windshield. * Front trunk carpet is very nice and the original spare tire is unused. * Tool kit has just the basics (see pics). Documentation There are extensive service receipts from 1991 through current. * The original US version 1985 owners manual and service book is included. * 1985 full color Testarossa factory launch brochure * 1985 Testarossa factory launch poster * Sept. 1986 issue of Car and Driver with black Testarossa * October 1986 issue of Automobile Magazine with yellow Testarossa * Full parts diagrams * Factory service manual in digital form * All reciepts from the previous two owners back to 1991. * Reciepts for all parts purchased during my ownership Mechanical Condition The Testarossa drives and shifts as you would expect from a 42,500 mile well maintained driver. * Idles smooth warm or cold. * Pulls smoothly and powerfully to redline. * Clutch and shifter work perfectly and shift crisply with no grinding no matter if warm or cold. Such a joy to shift! * R134a A/C blows cold * Two sets of wheels are included: o The original date correct TRX magnesium wheels with old TRX tires o A set of 16" wheels from a 1987 model with brand new BF Goodrich Sport Comp 2 tires. These are currently installed * Brakes work great and don't show wear (see pics). * All windows and electrical accessories work well. * Completely original exhaust system except for the pre-cats which were hollowed out. Both cats are intact and will pass smog anywhere. Mechanical History * Original numbers matching engine and transmission. * Serviced regularly by Garage Winandy Freres, a reputable Ferrari dealer in Luxembourg. I have reciepts for regular servicing from 1992-1999 as well as the following repairs: o 1992 replaced idicator switches o 1998 Timing belt major service, replace brake master cylinder o 1999 overhaul alternator * Transmission completely rebuilt by Garage Winandy in 1999 at 30,000 miles. o Differential was inspected and noted to be in good condition. o New clutch installed o Shifter is perfect and shifts crisply no matter if warm or cold. * Brand new Ferrari fuse box installed in 2001 o In 2013, I removed the box and sent it to Dave Helms at Scuderia Rampante for his $1600 fusebox upgrade service which improved electrical system performance. * Completely new A/C system installed in 2002 o New rotary compressor and receiver drier o New hoses o Converted to R134a * Major service performed in 2004 by Dave Helms of Scuderia Rampante at 39,000 miles. o I have pictures and receipts. o Catalytic converters rebuilt, passed Colorado smog. o Cams indexed at this time. * Car was stored from 2005 to 2013, but was run and driven a few times per year to prevent deterioration. * Major tune up upon my purchase in 2013 at 41,000 miles. Have reciepts for all parts. o 12 new Genuine Bosch fuel injectors o New Genuine Bosch starter solenoid. o 2 new Genuine Bosch O2 sensors. o New Magnecor ignition wire set, new Bosch spark plugs, and new caps and rotors. o Easily passed California smog after tune up. * Major service performed in 2014 by myself at 42,000 miles. o I've serviced, rebuilt, and restored Porsches for years, so with some help from the seasoned members of Ferrarichat I was able to perform the service PROPERLY myself. o Only factory Ferrari parts were used for all timing belt related items. I have reciepts for all parts. o Valve clearances were checked and recorded. None needed adjustment. o Rebuilt water pump with factory kit o New silicon hoses throughout o New factory water pump J hose o Refill with Mobil 1 15w50 full synthetic o Replaced transmission oil. No metallic bits or residue on drain plug. Terms and Conditions: Car is sold as-is with no warranty. You may subject the car to a Pre Purchase Inspection (flatbedded both ways at your expense to a reputable Ferrari specialist shop within 60 miles) within 3 days after winning. You may cancel your purchase if the PPI reveals anything major that I did not already disclose in the auction and I will re-list the car. Payment by wire transfer or cashiers check only. Title will be given immediately upon payment, but funds must clear my bank before the car leaves my possession. I have sold cars overseas before (I have references) and will be happy to work with foreign buyers. I may be able to deliver the car to one of the export companies at the port of Long Beach. Looks to be a great example of the Flying Mirror. I think you're asking far too little for it, IMHO. BTW, the Cavallino on the rear should be black, in case you care about it being correct for the year & much more sinister looking. GLWS.
Sorry for the Carfax link...that goes to my entire Google drive! Here's the direct link: https://drive.google.com/open?id=0BxVKmDV_zUJHM2ZPUEh3ajcxRHc

Sandy Eggo...I think I'm asking a very fair price for all concerned considering it has a DIY service and is a higher mileage driver. I've gotten a lot of response here, but no full price offers yet. I'm firm on the $95k for now. I wrote the ad for ebay but I thought I would offer it here first since F chatters helped me so much! Here's the link to the auction so you can have the most updated revision of the ad with correct info. Very annoying that you aren't allowed to fix errors in your ad here on F chat. I will still sell her for $95k to an F chatter and remove the auction, just send me a PM. http://www.ebay.com/itm/291551515617
Google Photos series worth browsing for those original Automobile and Car & Driver cover shots alone. Boy, those took me back!
Great price. Perhaps leaving money on the table. Nice car. I have a 550 with over 60,000 miles and it is in better condition than many lower miles. People need to appreciate the importance of condition over mileage.
DIY Service - you were probably more careful than a shop would have been. You also sound like you know what you're doing. So, don't sell yourself short. It's not rocket-science after all - only nuts and bolts. I still think you're leaving money on the table. Just make sure that at that price it goes to a genuine enthusiast and not a 'flipper' or dealer. If I hadn't already scratched the Black Flying Mirror TR itch (Testarossa wins again! - FerrariChat.com) - I would be writing the check.
Who the heck are you and why are you commenting about a car you're not even selling? Leave it alone and let the guy sell his car!
...because we all know and help each other out in the Testarossa section. Sandy had a platinum winning concours TR. He knows what he's talking about. Shamile Freeze....Miami Vice!
I must admit I had similar thoughts about these posts from members that advise the seller he is selling too cheap. Question for the mods: if it's impermissible to tell the seller he is asking too much, why is it not equally impermissible to tell him he's selling too cheaply? LOL
This should be a model post for other selling items. Full disclosure. Complete. Great post. Good luck. Great car.
I scanned the entire car & driver article a few years ago: http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/boxers-tr-m/415569-1986-i-13-arrived-my-mailbox.html Sale is pending to an F chat member...I'll keep you posted.
I like the title on the cover of C&D saying: "Life in the rich-and-famous lane with Ferrari's $98000, 176 mph, Testarossa" I am thinking a $98,000.00 asking price would have been more appropriate for your situation instead of $95,000.00 Good luck with the sale. I hope the F chatter here ends up with it.
