I've been asked by a few people if the valve guides were replaced. After some research I found a document from Ferrari stating cars post assembly number 27689 were done with steel guides instead of bronze. I believe this car to have an assembly number in the 28000 range, not requiring updating. Also, I've been asked a few times about the exhaust manifolds. They were replaced approximately 2500 miles ago. Thanks for all the calls. No deposit yet, car is still for sale.
People love the 355 Spider. I've mentioned here that driving one in the downtown/Strip in Vegas is like being in a parade float - people yell, cheer, wave, etc.
Hi, the top is in good condition, clear back window. The previous owner had the bands replaced. The top functions well. It was never converted to Manual operation. Thanks for the interest.
Converted to manual operation? Is this common? Definitely a great idea for an older cars that's expensive to fix. How much does a manual conversion cost?
When I was looking for this one a high percentage of the cars I saw had been converted. I guess it's cheaper than having it fixed. As far as cost, I believe the instructions to convert to manual operation are in the owner's manual. After doing some research I found the F1 cars could be expensive to fix which made my decision to buy the 6 spd manual even more justified. Also I was told valve guides and exhaust manifolds were something to pay attention to. This car had just received new exhaust manifolds and the assembly number was after Ferrari switched to steel valve guides. Thanks everyone for the interest.
Yes, it's common because the OEM roof motors are $$$ (over $3k?). Mine is manual. It is a little awkward manually, but really only takes a few seconds more to prop up and place the pegs into the A pillars. The biggest pain about it is that the seats have to be forward and down, so obviously you have to be standing outside the car with your hands up under the roof.
Lots of interest however still available. This one is worth a look, I didn't find many that were cleaner or as well cared for when I was searching for this one.
