Hi folks... One of the first TDF displayed to the public is featuring those new racing inspired seats... As for now, I have'nt seen them elsewhere... Have they been offered as an option to one of our lucky futur Owners ? Has somebody seen them on the dealer configurator ? or have them been discused with the dealers ? I love them so bad !! http://image.motortrend.ca/f/94008360+w640/Ferrari-F12tdf-front-interior-seats.jpg
Well, I'll share what I know....and don't know, and think When we were in Maranello in early November, we asked about the "new" seats....at the time (and perhaps still) they were not an option. What I think... (i.e. pure speculation) Seats need to be homologated/certified for each market, plus a number of markets have specific safety requirements. That's one reason why the different Ferrari seats (structurally) have been pretty consistent, albeit with different cosmetic details. (eg. - similar to the rules why you cannot buy factory 4pt harnesses in the NA market, but you can in the EU). Cost vs. likely demand might a factor in them not being offered, or at a super high price. Then again, LaF "seats" were homologated, and I'd assume the tdf will be imported as an F12 with regards to crash standards, so perhaps it will be easier to get them certified. Also, if you've ever lived with fixed-back seats (eg. Porsche's LWB), they can be a pain in the ass (or, back). Zero access to the rear of the car, and not adjustable. That of course is my opinion, if you like and want them, hope they are made available.
For me personally, they do suit the track nature of the TDF better than the standard adjustable CF seats which have been around since the Scud in '07?
Whilst they may look good, zero adjustment is a killer as I know from the F40, and I don't want to not drive my car long distances because of the discomfort. Also I KNOW my wife will hate them.
At some point the WAF (Wife acceptance factor) becomes a key issue... We also have to admit that although high performance cars are doing well on a track, they are NOT race cars...
I imagine the wear and tear would be a killer on the drivers side lower edge where you get in and out. Plus fixed back seats suck for more than anything 30-45 minutes driving. They look great though.
I don't think these are the same. I think the OP is referring to post 285 below: Notice how the uppers and lower are connected to be more of a race car seat. http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/ff-gtc4lusso-f12/502417-official-ferrari-f12-tdf-picture-thread-15.html
Yes I think it's different. Strange I don't have option to change to that style ;( when configure my car
Excellent ! I want to see them ! I started to think that those seats are like the Helicopters used in the binladen raid... One picture ... And Nothing !!!
Yep Nelson ! I posted a picture in my original post. I was clearly referring to the bucket seats, not the regular "Scud" seats.
The question was really to know if they actually exist or are offered by Ferrari... if they are suited for daily use is another question
Pricing is out. Was quoted around 65000 usd for both sides. I am in Asia. When too much is too much.... Carbon head ramp was 30000 usd for both sides. I was expecting around 40000 usd. Ouch!
