    Ferrari's manual recommendation:

For summer tires: Front 245/35R20, Rear 295/35R20
For winter tires: Front 235/35R20, Rear 285/35R20

Would it be okay to use 245/35R20 & 285/35R20 combo for the winter?

I know some AWD systems can be very finicky and get overworked and overheated if some specs are not exactly as specified, and I'm wondering if the 4RM system is that way. From tire calculations, a worn down 245/35R20 will become smaller than diameter than a new 235/35R20. Moreover, 4RM's 1st gear go with DCT's 1st and 2nd gear, and 4RM's 2nd go with DCT's 3rd and 4th, so there might be some leeway. Therefore, I like to say it's okay, but I'm not sure.

Please let me know your thoughts.

I use summer sizes in the winter compound. Technically with icy/wintry/wet conditions you want more weight per cm2 of contact giving you more traction in such conditions. However as I live with the most salted roads in the world, I choose to keep the summer size with winter compound; compounds is an entirely different discussion which you already know all to well

I would like that, too. What brand do you use? The only model that comes in that size on tirerack is Bridgestone Blizzak LM-32. However, LM-32 doesn't have the oem summer size for the front.

Of course, if you put a different brand for the front, both Sottozero and Pilot Alpin PA4 do have the oem summer size. Interestingly, Ferrari is not listing that size for the winter.

There are obviously many debates on whether to go narrow for the winter tire to slice through rather than riding on the top of the snow. I'm with the slicing camp but I would prefer the small increase in side wall especially for the front.

Sotto Zeros only come in 235 x 35 x 20 and 285 x 35 x20 and the argument is as stated, ie less footprint + more pressure. although the science proves the point in favour of narrower footprint I'm not convinced and think the marketing speak for Pirelli really means we don't do the correct size for the FF and Lusso but Michelin do and they are fantastic. Better grip in snow, better control on ice and last really well in normal driving. the size is 245x35x20 and 295x35x20 and if anyone is prepared to argue that the 10mm less width on the Sottos is important I would suggest the exposed rims are more so.

Do you mean Michelin comes in 295/35R20 for winter tire? I can't find it. I would like to do 245/285 from what's available on tirerack and wonder if that will cause additional stress and problem to the 4RM system.

I have the following winter tires for my FF:

    Front: Michelin Pilot Alpin 4 235/35 R20 92V N0
    Rear: Michelin Pilot Alpin 4 285/35 R20 104V N0

    N0=Porsche specification.

Same size as suggested by Ferrari and sports car specification. They are absolutely fantastic. The only downside is the maximum speed of 240 km/h. But that's okay for winter.

Yes the pilot super sport mud and snow are in the 245 and 295. I have them in my racks ready to change. Try My Tyres . Com they are available and have more aggressive treadblock and rated to 135 mph which is fine for alpine trips

Michelin. Pirelli total crap - I threw sottozero in the bin literally. Basically you run F12 winter size on FF ie F12 winter size is 295 in rear

Exactly! All the GTC4L's that Ferrari was using at cormayeur client testing were running Michelin as well.....they are fantastic

When you mentioned Pilot Super Sport M&S, I think you meant Pilot Sport A/S+, which comes in 245 and 295. Unfortunately, I can't find that size in the States.

The Alpin PA4 also don't come in 245 and 295 in the States.

I do see those sizes on mytyres.co.uk.

That's a shame and can't understand why not available as winter in the US can be very much the same 'white out' as some areas here in Europe. Certainly they are the best winter tyre I have ever used, so sure footed.
