I get the bug to get another watch around this time of year. Usually pick one up as a Christmas present to myself. Always had a bit of a love/hate relationship with Rolex...I 'm really taken with modern Submariners and Daytonas, but get annoyed by the fact that Rolexes are often a default purchase by some who only know the brand name...kinda the same problem I have with Corvettes. The vintage Rolexes appeal to me because of their smaller size/less flash. I would love a mid-60's Submariner, of the type worn by Connery in the early Bond films, but they run about $4K-$5K. Anyway, did some searching on eBay, found the Air-King listed from a dealer in Argentina with a sterling record and a lot of other interesting pieces, and made an offer of $1400. Sold! Should arrive in a few weeks. Also snagged this 1968 Omega from another vendor: Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Nice, congratulations! Like I did yesterday. Bought the Magrette, then the Ralf Tech at a great discounted price. Just before Christmas I bought my wife a nice Hermès watch, so I had some "credits" to cash in.
That's cool man. Glad you joined the club of Rolex wearing folks. It's not a bad thing - I agree that some people only know brand. I have a modern Submariner (TT YG/SS Blue Dial) and a modern Daytona (SS/White Dial) among my collection and I like them both very much. I've never been much into vintage pieces, preferring mostly to just buy their new stuff. Try not to let other Rolex wearers and their widely varied reasons for purchasing one of these watches bother you. The watches are nice enough that they are worthy of your attention.
Enjoy brother - you've earned it! Nice watch - classic design, I have the no date sub and the white faced SS Daytona - fantastic watches. Good to have you on board.
It's been great! It's picked up a few small scuffs along the way, but that's because it's been thoroughly enjoyed as often as possible. In fact, I'm wearing it right now. All the best, Andrew.
I'm wearing a 20+ yr old Omega seamaster right now. It's got so many scratches and a couple that are pretty deep. I don't care at all. It adds character. Couldn't be happier with it. I can't wait until I can get my own Rolex Post in the what watch are you wearing thread sometime. It would be cool to see how much damage you've done in the short time you've owned it
I agree, it adds character. Will do, I'll try to snap a new pic for that thread sometime soon. All the best, Andrew.
Whoa-if you get a modern Omega PO, you'll forever stop it with the Rolex envy. Omega has it nailed these days.
I've tried on a 300m with a black dial at an AD and really liked it. The only thing that keeps me from really wanting one is I already have a Seamaster(one of the most undesirable models though). It felt great on my wrist and I loved it. I want to diversify my collection a bit before I get another SM. I would either get a Pepsi GMT or Speedmaster 3573 as my next watch. I'm still a couple years out from my next purchase so I have plenty of time to try on stuff and ponder about it.
Congratulations on your first Rolex! I too have been looking to buy my first Rolex for some time now and I'm excited in becoming a proud owner such as yourself. I would say that it is a little hard for me to trust anybody selling a Rolex through ebay though. I suppose I just prefer a personal transaction. Beautiful watch though!
