You need to add: Has many watches, wears one every day and STILL looks for a wall clock, computer or phone to know the time, due to blindness! :)

I don't wear one at work, but most of the other times I do. Am just starting to get interested in nice watches though. Always had on an old Fossil, now trying to find some interesting watches that are in my budget.

I like nice watches, but only wear when dressing up. I do wear a stop watch when working out. I just see a decreasing interest in watches, I think from the mobile boom. any younger people wearing watches?

I've worn a watch every day since graduating high school. I feel naked without one.

    I have a couple watches.
I started out with a Fossil that I really liked then the watch bug bit me and it bit me hard.

Now I don't even wear my fossil and mainly wear an Omega and occasionally put on my Ferrari watch(once per week).

In the future I see myself saving up for certain watches. Who knows though

Regarding other younger people, only a couple of my friends wear a watch. A couple have told me they will most likely buy one in the future but wouldn't want to spend more than a couple thousand for a nice watch.

It will be interesting to see if any of them develop a liking for watches in the future. A lot of them seem to have no interest.

However, I don't think the industry is going away as I still encounter many young people who like them. Whether it's a G-shock, Fossil, or Bulova, many still like to have one on their wrist and that might develop into them buying a higher end watch.

It is still advantageous for me to wear one since there is not always a wall clock and it's not always appropriate for me to dig out my phone.

Nothing better than owning and wearing a fine watch. Kids today may not start out wearing a watch. But with age, a subset will grow to appreciate certain brands for great craftsmanship, uniqueness, mechanical features, etc. The lower-end fashion brands may loose out to phones over time, but fine brands will still find an audience. Yep - I'm with Troy on this one. :)

Had a decent-looking Accurist for years and now I wear a stainless steel (and utterly sublime, in my view) Rolex Oyster Perpetual.

    All thd best,
    Andrew.

I'm 45, and have been wearing a watch for as long as I can remember.

My 10 year old son got an inexpensive digital watch for his birthday from one of our relatives, and he's been wearing it every day since. He knows how to use all of the functions (stopwatch, multiple alarms, timers, etc) and thinks its pretty cool.

Have worn a watch daily since about age 6 or 7.
Fascinated by them...the 'time' is a secondary issue.

The poll is self-selecting, since those uninterested in watches will not likely be in this subforum.

Personally, I like them but don't wear them anymore. In fact, I very recently pulled out my boxes (mostly mechanical Seikos) and they're all empty! I guess an ex or maid got them, and I haven't noticed in all these years.

Either that or they're buried in some other box

For reference my son wears his watch daily as does everyone in his office although they may be a bit more image conscious than most.

I'm 32 and I wear a watch every day. I have since probably middle school.
These days, it'll be an Omega or a Rolex on my wrist.

Edit: The poll results are pretty conclusive. :)

    a) Always worn a watch.
    b) My take is that it's the only jewelry any man can wear (just an opinion as a minimalist, I don't mind men wearing jewelry or whatever).
    c) I appreciate anything with great quality and the level of quality some watches have fascinates me.
    d) I appreciate anything with a great design.
    e) Cell phone battery life sucks these days. You can trust your watch.
    f) So many things to buy before forking out 5+ digits for a watch though.

Edit: I'm 29 and most of my friends don't wear watches. Gave my best friend (30) a watch similar to one I wear, on his wedding, and he absolutely loves it. I think almost any guy can appreciate a nice watch even if they don't wear one these days.

The same poll should be also conducted in the Silver and OOT areas of the forum to correct for design bias.

That said, I wear a watch all the time. I like knowing what time it is and being on time or early.

It would be cool to see how the rest of the forum responds to this.

A silver thread about watches had a nice run a couple months ago

I stopped wearing one for a few years, battery died in my fossil, I worked most of the time, just never thought about it.
But getting my watch for Christmas ignited a fire I think. I know my tastes aren't within my budget at the moment. But I've been looking at some vintage watches I find really cool. I know my Citizen isn't the best, but I like it. And I can just go up from here.

    What they said.

I got interested in mechanical watches probably about 10 years ago. I always have my mobile phone so mostly interested in nice watches as a fashion item and because it's nice to have something mechanical in your life when everything else is electronic/digital.
