I need help figuring out what watch to peruse. I'm 39 and I've always worn a watch for as long as u can remember. Anymore I'm not wearing a watch for several reasons. I don't want the tan line, use my phone when I need to know what time it is, 1 of my watches finally died on me after probably 12 years and my other watches just don't excite me enough to wear anymore.
My watch background is mostly seikos, Casio and an aluminum Swatch(died, my banker who wears a Breitling Navitimer also loved it)

    My likes are:
    Only metal bands
Easy to read time and date
    Lightweight
    Durable
    Interesting to look at

My problem is I can't get myself to buy a Breitling like my banker since I'm too cheap to buy that. What would be a good watch under 2000, 1000 and 500. I've looked at vintage watches and find them to be very interesting but I don't know much if anything at all about all of the different brands or brands to avoid.

    Thanks

I have a Muhle Glashutte Navitimer with luminous dial and Ball Trieste with tritium marks that fit the bill. Rugged, "different", and fairly inexpensive. At night they are killer.

Rolexes and Breitlings don't do it for me anymore.
I like watches that are out of the limelight much as Pateks and VCs are but can wear everyday without guilt of scratching and at a much lower cost.

Vintage watches are neat but typically too small for todays style.

Go really old school: pocket watch. Start with a high end American railroad watch and branch out from there. A Hamilton 950 is the best timekeeper and they were made in PA! Pocket watches are much cheaper and higher quality than wristwatches and no tan lines!

    Regards,

I'm sorry, a watch died after 12 years? Did you ever service it? Thats a heck of a run for a mechanical with no work.

Go to the mall and buy a watch you like, plenty to chose from.

Look into vintage Seiko diver watches from the mid 1970s to mid 1980s. Great stories, award winning and famous designers, high quality low cost competitor to Rolex Sub back in the day, comfortable to wear, built like tanks, easy to read and amazing value for money. People wear them on bracelets, nations and rubber straps.

They now have a global cult following.

I recently bought an all original, model 6309 from about 1978 for $400. New models are still being made. Prices range from $500-2000....but I like the old ones.

Do a search on vintage Seiko dive watches. Lots of good info out there.

    Vintage Seiko Divers 6309 Series

    Good luck in your search.

I found a Tag on the ground and fixed the band, but then it fell from my pocket, chopping wood and Val ran over it..

Tags are nice and don't break the bank.

Omegas, are nice also and have the same tie in to sports timing..I wish I had possessed the cash to bag that Schumi Edition in FAds

Like you I had exclusively Swatch's for a long time, now use my phone.

I found a nice watch at estate sale that for $20 turned out to be worth $500.
Name escapes me and I don't wear it enough to keep it running!!
