Hello all, I am a big watch guy. My 14 year old nephew is getting into them now as well. I want to buy him something decent for the holidays. With that being said, he is 14, so a $5000 Tag is out of the question. I am thinking a $300 budget, which is way higher then the $50 pop watches he can afford so far. He seems to like stylish, sporty chronographs. Any ideas? Was thinking some kinda Eco Drive Citizen?

Ideas, links, pics would be great.

The nicest chrono watches I found in that price range were Seiko. I picked up an snd109p1 for that price range (little over $200), full 1/10 chrono and very nice styling. There are so many choices it can be overwhelming, though.

Amazon.com will help you immensely on this PLUS discount/department stores like TJ Maxx. I always see Bulova and/or Citizen in the range you mentioned.

14 year olds are rough on equipment.

I'd get him a GShock MudMan or the Luminox, or if he's a techy kid, get him one of the Sunntos with altimeter/barometer/GPS stuff.

Get something vintage on eBay. Cool old wristwatches or a nice railroad grade pocket watch can be had within your budget.

I like Darth's Nixon idea. Also, Diesel has some cool stuff out there.

Even the most enlightened, mature 14 year old would prefer a modern, fashion watch to a vintage, classic timepiece.

    Farmerdave,

Don't be so sure. Old stuff is becoming cool again. Remember, there no longer is a need for stand alone watches.

I was doing early Christmas shopping last night and saw one of these in person, or close to it, really very cool in person. There was one that was black and titanium highlighted with orange second hands that was very cool too in the same case, can't find a pic of that one online.

Well in my mind I'm still basically there and apparently so are you, so neither of us will win that one. :D I always joke that everything I do in life I gauge by how impressed 14 year old Dave would be by 35 year old Dave. I certainly disappoint him sometimes but also impress him. :D

Thanks guys for all the ideas. After talking to him and trying to feel him out, he did mention Diesel. But, are they just a fancy pop watch? I think a Citizen or Seiko would be much better made no?
