I was given my great great grandfather's watch and know nothing about it. It doesn't work. Is it something I should get fixed? Thanks for your help!

I have two vintage pocket watches and they are not worth what it costs to service them. One was my great uncle's ordination watch and the other came with my house. A basic overhaul starts at $250 (Chicago price) and goes straight up from there. So, if you are asking if it makes sense financially to have it overhauled, the answer is NO! On the other hand, every time I wear a pocket watch people ask me about the watch (this of course also "requires" me owning several vests and a three piece suit). All kidding aside, you really can't put a price on family heirlooms IF they mean something to you. When my grandmother gave me the watch I was very moved because it reminds me of both my great uncle and my grandfather, yet I gladly let her give the beat up Honus Wagner card to a friend of the family who used to watch baseball games with him (NOT a tobacco card btw).

It has a fairly low grade movement from one of US top watch manufacturers, now sadly gone.
Worth restoring? Absolutely, it is your ancestors watch, so a family heirloom!
But if you decide to have it restored, please select a proper watch maker that is experienced with these movements!
