    Hey all,
So I've been thinking about getting my first nice(ish?) watch! I was wondering if any of you guys had any experience with the watchmaker Invicta? It seems like the make high quality watches, but I was wondering if there is anything that you guys might know about them that I am not aware of.
    Thanks,
    Henry

    Fashionable, inexpensive, not high quality.

If you want some suggestions you could provide budget that you want to work in along with any pertinent info like dress watch or sport watch. I am sure you will get some good suggestions.

I heard that if you buy the very top of the line watches they have some good stuff. Not verified just heard. Quality I have heard not the best but for the value and looks I can see the attraction.

Personally I prefer a better name known for quality. If you want a good quality watch or nice(ish) my suggestion would be the Citizen Eco Drive or Bulova Precisionist.

I almost bought this one the weekend, Amazon.com: Citizen Men's AT4007-54E Perpetual Chrono A-T Black Stainless Steel Watch: Citizen: Clothing

The Invicta top of the line may contain the lowest grade ETA movement, called Standard Grade.
Some may contain the eqvivalent Stellita.

But they all are assembled in China, where the rest of the components are made.
Imho you can get a better watch for what they cost.

But if you like their designs, I guess you have to buy one of them!

No, they are low quality. Trust me.

You can buy a similar quality "honest" chinese eatch for much less online.

I had one a while back, it was pretty good initially, cool box and everything, then one day it just fell apart.

My wife wanted my Rolex, so I bought her an Invicta. She cant tell the difference (-: Most wouldn't be able to tell the difference while on hand. I'm surprised Invicta is getting away with this...

They can only because Rolex can not patent the design.
But to be frank, any watch nerd can feel the difference just by opening and closing the bracelet.

Alright thanks guys! Basically what I am looking for is a sports watch, with a metal band, for under $300. I really like the Rolex Submariner as my dad got one last year for Christmas and I really like the watch in general. I want something durable that can be thrown around a little but, as I am only 13 and it would get beat up a little.

FWIW, if you want a durable, solid, diver style watch for under $300, get a Seiko skx007 or skx009. Similar to the Rolex in looks but respected on their own.

Hawolf, you should have a look on watches made by Seiko, Citizen. Check out also Swatch.
These brands are not so expensive, but good quality.

OK, I LOVE Invicta and probably have 3 dozen!
Never had any issues w/ quality. Most are water proof as they are dive watches so am not afraid to wash my hands. There are so many designs, face textures and colors to choose from. Supper easy to adjust bands w/ a simple watch kit. Since they don't cost a fortune I don't mind paying $5 instead of $35 to get new batteries installed without all the pressure testing, etc. I like the larger sizes.

If you change a battery ( on a Quartz watch) without testing the WR after, you do not know if it is safe to get wet.

A dive watch has to have a tested WR of 100m or more.

That Invictas don't cost a fortune I don't mind taking the risk on it not being good to depth rather than paying $35-45 for battery changes.

I guess not so important with a disposable watch.
To save money you can change the battery yourself too. You only need to buy one tool, they are fairly cheap I think.

If you do some looking, you can sometimes find them on sale for just under $200 on Amazon.

You might also look at the Wenger Swiss Army watches. I have a few I wear as weekend beaters, and they've held up very well. You can find them discounted pretty heavily on Ebay and Amazon.

    Wenger.

You can find the Sea Force all day on Ebay for ~$100

I want a Casio Blue Angel. Don't need it, but I want it. For $300, way better than an Invicta.

I used to have a Blue Angel. Great watch for the $. The only negative is that my old eyes could not read the dial.

I wore Wenger, Victorinox, Swiss military type watches for years as they were water proof, sturdy, explorer/diving style and had lots of cool moving parts. In fact these led directly into my addiction to Invicta. Photo of my latest personal purchase.

BTW, I just ordered watches for all my Christmas gifts for family and friends.
