we need to come up with a restoration estimate for the burned 280sl. personally i dont think it is possible for less than $100k, or worthwhile, but we need some kind of professional corroboration.

and then, once we get the replacement, we might have some work for them.

    any pointers?

For a restoration, I would be concerned about how much hidden damage the fire might have done to the sheet metal. Depending on how hot the fire got, it might have altered the chemical/physical properties of the metal. My understanding is that extra measures (added cost?) must be taken to prevent rust from reforming under new paint after a fire. Just a point for you to research and ask about.

yes thats a good thought. i do NOT want to restore that car. i am worried about all sorts of hidden issues. much rather replace it.

but we need a person of some repute to tell the insurance company and give a figure.

Try Manfred's Automotive in Naples (good personal experience)

Or Palm Beach Classics (no personal experience, but they do a lot of SLs)

    Or Bud's Benz in Georgia
