Any rec on good radar detectors/jammers?
The passport SRX is a good system as it has the radar shifters. I now have the Valentine 1 and I have enjoyed it thus far. I actually have them in both cars
Valentine 1 for me personally. I have installed many Passport 9500ci versions along with the radar mirror kit. No complaints so far. S Radar Mirror: http://www.radar-mirror.com/ Passport: http://www.escortradar.com/passport9500ci-details.php
If you want jammers - the Escort 9500ci is what you want. If you just want laser detection (which, honestly, is worthless...if you get hit by laser and you are speeding, it doesn't matter) For radar, the Escort 9500ci has this as well as the laser jammers. If you just want something simple, look at the Valentine 1 or the Escort Passport 9500ix Those are your top of the line, all-around detectors.
Just to add to what's been said, don't forget the Redline version of the escort. It's alng the lines on the V1 but is undetectable to radar detector-detectors for those states that radar detectors are illegal.
My new car came with a K40 installed; it seems nicely integrated with front and rear detection zones. I have used a V1 for years. Any thoughts on the K40 and its relative performance? Forza, David
K40 is considered bottom of the barrel in the laser jammer world (sorry!). Last time I kept up with it, Laser Interceptor was considered the very best. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD
Websites that ostensibly evaluate detector/jammer performance rate the K40 very low. They also, for the most part, accept advertising dollars from detector manufacturers. In any case I have had the original K40 in my 911 for 6 years with no speeding tickets. I also have their "worthless" (front) laser "jammer." Have no idea if the latter works except that I have been hit by laser, on more than one occasion, doing 75 in a 55 with (again) no tickets. Since "it doesn't work" I guess it must just be a miracle of some kind. K40 now has a newer iteration (the 360 or something) that is suposedly better. Why in the world someone would hang an ugly 1950s style V1 off the windshield of their 200 K Ferrari is beyond me.
If you just want laser detection (which, honestly, is worthless...if you get hit by laser and you are speeding, it doesn't matter) That's what I used to think but I read some tech article recently that said the algorithms that run the systems (here at least) require a 4 second lock on to do a legally enforceable measurement. May be the same elsewhere. It went on to say that if you hit the brakes hard on first detection the initial and subsequent detections screwed with the logic and then spat out a result that didn't allow enforcement. I have detected and braked hard, over limit and not been pulled over. Does anyone else know anything about this or can confirm it?
JS NZ you are correct, here as well on the 4 second lock for legal purposes and that dectector graph showing which are best is BS as the Valentine 1 is the reason the Redline Escort exists, everyone knows that they V1 is touchy but that because it warns you 4-5 seconds before the 9500ix even blips ones, duh! Not rocket science here. As per the laser detection, the 9500ix is **** once again compared to the V1 as I had both on my dash to compare and my buddy who happens to be LEO has his laser out and let's test them we say....he hits me with it and the the F'n 9500ix doesn't even go off!? V1 goes off and he said I was able to decelerate whilst being tagged.....bonus! Real world vs graph....
I have the new k40 very professionally installed 2 months ago ( radar detector and laser jammer) and am very satisfied. I was jammed 2 times minimum at 80 for 40 and did not get arrested. I have a one year guaranty no speed ticket ( they pay te fee if any) My dealer said the new k 40 is the best according to him
I have the 9500 ci with laser shifter. No complaints so far. Plus really easy to hide to keep the OEM look
I would probably go the same route with a Ferrari......... BUT........ My only reservation is that there does not appear to be a tie-in with Escort Live! for the 9500 ci. Conversely, I do have such a Bluetooth tie in with my windshield mounted 9500 xi. The argument could be made that having a laser jammer as in th ci negates the need for Escort Live! as with the xi. However, Escort Live! is also helpful for red light cameras, speed cameras, and speed traps. FWIW. But, I'll probably put a 9500 ci in my Ferrari. Also, I have a Valentine 1 + Blinder Extreme M40 arrangement in my M5, and have NEVER received a speeding ticket in 6 years of operation. Great setup, except the V1 is prone to sudden false outbursts, whereas my Escort 9500 xi falses very rarely. Now, I have gotten window tint and missing front plate tickets in that car, but my defensive measures have little to do with those!
Mike. There s a recent thread in Silver called "latest radar detectors" that has more info and opinions for you. I am about to buy one and debating V-1 and top of line escort
Despite the opinion above, I had a K40 put in my scud in 2008, my wife's Mas GTS wiTh the F1 super fast in 2009 and just recently in my 612. Have never ever had a problem with being nailed for speeding and have been detected countless times
I have a V1 hardwired in my 360. Not sure I prefer it over the 8500 X50 I had several years back though.
I've had a 9500ix for a several years and have convinced a few of my buddies to to go that route. It's not a laser jammer, but it's a great detector. My stereo guy tried to sell me the 9500ci at the time, and I told him $2K plus for each car was stupid when I could carry my $500 9500ix from car to car. Well, I bought a new X5M last year, and while I was dumping thousands into a sound system, I thought, "What the hell" and splurged on a 9500ci. It was great not having anything stuck to the windshield, but the best part for me was that the 9500ci mutes the stereo during an alert. A month later, I put one in my DBS. Last month, I broke down and put one in my old 2001 360. I know many of you want to hear the engine only, but if you like your tunes (or have a really loud exhaust), I highly recommend the 9500ci. A good installer is essential.
Who is using the Escort Redline? Does it perform well? I need an undetectable, since I live not far from VA.
I have to agree with this statement. The jammer gives a signal that shows a no reading back at the gun but gives off an alarm in the car for you to shut the jammer off and avoid a ticket altogether. There are so many takers for tickets, the cop will just wait another 30 seconds for the victim behind you without the jammer. Radar detection is at best novelty. If you are using it to avoid tickets, it will eventually let you down....the 4 second "legal" count watches you descending in speed...if you are slightly above after the count, but they know you were traveling much faster, its gonna be a ticket. CHP have zero sense of humor.
Anyone use the battery operated Escort radar? I use it mostly to keep me informed, but I rarely speed (I know, hard to believe). Its nice if i'm not paying attention...
