Damn 237.985mph!!! Do you know if this is a racer or a street car? I would love to see the full car and its modifications/specifications. I have lusted over the 850 T5 for many years. Image Unavailable, Please Login
It's a really fast street car. Of course modified to the speed. I also lusted over the 850 TS when I was younger
That's an 850 T5-R. It was available only in 1995 and was the fastest Volvo made to that point and in 1995 was quite likely one of the fastest cars sold other than exotics at 3 or 4 times the cost. It was one of the first non-exotic cars with 17" wheels. It was available only with an automatic as Volvo didn't have a manual transmission that they thought was capable of holding the 243 horsepower the engine produced. Porsche helped with the powertrain development. There was one in California a few years ago that was pretty impressive... I spotted this 240D on the 4th and thought it very cool. The owner said he had to "tub" the rear end to get the upgraded rims/tires to fit and he wants to install a cage and do an engine swap. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Volvos never lit a fire in me, they were inferior in every way to Saabs from the 99 until GM. I'll inevitably need a newer DD eventually, however Volvo has taken the easy emissions route with the exceptionally penned 60 and become a non consideration by offering up clutch free models across the board . Who knew Buick and Cadillac would be considerations in 2014, although the General deservedly remains on my 'sheet' list along with local Bimmer and Audi outlets. Ick.
Cage??? Why???? Remember the Volvo ads... 240's stacked 7 high and the bottom car's roof (and glass) was still intact. (Maybe those were 140's, but still the same exact body.)
Yes I remember that ad, it was cool. I assumed he may have hopes of racing it someday or just making it a SAFER "sleeper" so I am not sure. You know car guys are crazy.
We had a lot of Volvos growing up. I remember as teens my brother drove our 240 off an embankment and landed on its side. It scratched up the paint and that was it. Tough cars.
I bought my wife a new Volvo C70 convertible last year with the Polestar chip. The car has been absolutely flawless and a real pleasure to own. The build quality is exceptional and she is fairly entertaining for a FWD hard top convertible with no real sporting pretensions. Most impressively, in her use as a daily driver she has managed 29.6 MPG over the last 15K miles.
