This will be my ongoing build thread to make a 348 motor work for front engine and rear wheel drive. I am adapting a Ford bell housing and a Borg-Warner T5 transmission.
And building a complete tube frame for the Fulvia.

Other plans I will be documenting in this thread
    355 crankshaft
Cylinder head work. Big valves, shim under, cams, porting
EFI with a Lancia Thema intake
    etc

    Stay tuned

Is the Fulvia's hood going to close or are you going to have engine sticking up thru a hole in it? I just don't see it fitting. And all the work fabricating the center tunnel to find there isn't space for seats.

Smaller cars have had even larger drive trains installed.
    I will make it fit.

Exactly, this should be a piece of cake compared to that Fiat 500 with the Lambo V12 :)

I can understand the desire to plan and execute a project like this, but I can't really understand why you want to stick body panels from a Lancia Fulvia onto your custom tubular frame. It's not REALLY going to look like a Fulvia is it, once you add the necessary bulges, scoops, and flares? Or does is it HAVE to be "based" on an existing vehicle in order to get it through the DMV?

That's a big part of it. In Minnesota it's a bunch of red tape to register a home built, or a kit car for the street.
Much easier if you have something with a title.

And I love the look of the Fulvias.

    Hi Reed,

What are your plans for the original Fulvia engine and transaxle?

    Thank you,

I hate to say it.. But you may be disappointed with this set up. That little v8 makes almost zero torque below 5k rpm. It will sound nice, but get up an go will be lacking. What are the ratios in the trans you are using? Is that T5 out of v8 mustang or 4 banger? If a 4 banger you might be ok.

The 348 guys don't seem to be upset with the performance. And I will be quite a bit lighter than a 348. Plus engine mods and no cats.

I will be running a special built T5 with close ratio. Here is a chart.

Reed, you're an ambitious man. There's nothing at all wrong with "outside the box" thinking. Looking forward to seeing this project completed and seeing your mocked-up engine/trans next Sunday at Wheels of Italy.

Got the finished adapter this week.
A huge THANKS to Fran Hall / RCR for making my design into a real part.

Now on to the next challenges. Flywheel and starter relocation.

good to see/hear of some progress, Fran are good people, and build some cool machines

if aligning the shifter to the stock Fulvia's position, this could hang the new engine mostly out forward of the front axle line, the tremec tko are nice in having alternate shifter locations forward, to help in tight packaging ...it'd be interesting to see some profile drawings (if done) to see how the layout will fit?

an a minnesota guy! i hope to see it some day!

dumb question, but are 348/355 motors terribly expensive?
