    Gentleman -

I'm seriously considering buying another sports car. I owned a 2001 Viper RT/10 several years ago.

Anyway, looking for a fun, fast car that I can drive 90 miles or so each way to the lake in the summer - say April - September. Roads are either back roads or highway, from St. Cloud, MN, to Crosslake, MN. I wouldn't mind tracking it at Brainerd International Raceway 1-2 times a year - I've never done that before, so no experience.

I loved the kick in the pants of the Viper, but I didn't like the open top/non-convertible aspect. It also wasn't overly comfortable.

    I am thinking a price point of $40,000 - $80,000.

My first thought would be to buy a Porsche 911 GT3 (997.1) Less than 15,000 miles and white.

Also on my list would be a Porsche Turbo (either 996 or 997), Acura NSX, Viper, ZO6, or 360.

I definitely want a manual. Minimal maintenance.

Also remember that I live in St. Cloud, MN. The nearest Porsche dealership is 60 miles South, in the twin cities. No Ferrari dealership except Lake Forest in Chicago.

Thoughts? Am I missing anything? Will be curious to hear opinions.

    Thanks,

    Mike

The 911 GT3 does it all impeccably.

a non rs I am assuming...that is the only way you will bet in under $140k.

I am also contemplating a gt3 but in rs trim. note sure if a gen 1 or 2 is right for me just yet.

The Porsches just don't do it for me. They don't sound right for some reason. I prefer either a loud V8 or a high pitched inline 4. That said, how about the new Alfa 4C? Alternatively, maybe a Z06 C6 Vette. If you are going to use it regularly I would say a 327 C3 convertible Vette (67 maybe).

How about a Panoz AIV or Esperante convertible, or maybe a used Maserati?

997 GT3 is hard to beat.

also look at a Lotus Elise or Exige. great weekend backroads car. excellent track car. small, light, no power steering, great car.

btw there's a great Italian car mechanic in your area, he's on here as 2NA, so don't let the lack of a dealer scare you off. in your price range a 348 ts or Spider would be fun.

Yes the GT3 RS are quickly becoming quite the collectible. I prefer the gen 2 but would choose the old school livery/graphics of the gen 1 GT3 RS.

Not everybody's cup of tea, but this car is quick, and has a Ford Cobra V8 under the hood.

And this particular example is for sale (note: I am not the owner).
