Carroll without question earned a name on the race tracks of the World but equally without question he earned a few other names too.

Maybe they should send that one to a Mecum auction.

Leave the poor guy alone, may he rest in peace. I'd be doing the same thing if it meant a few bucks and the benefit of seeing my handsome face on a box.

Considering how things really changed since Carol Shelby's humble beginnings- I don't see this as whorish. The same could be said about Joe Dimaggio, Mickey Mantle or Jackie Robinson. Back then athletes were just middle class people. What is a guy in his late 70s going to do to support himself and his family. It's not like he had a few extra GT40s, Cobras, Mustangs etc that were just sitting around that he could sell. He did what he had to do to get by. Granted most of the items he was passionate about. ie. Chili

Joe was a local and I am unaware of him ever not conducting himself with great dignity. And I don't consider TV commercials as undignified. I don't think anyone ever met him that didn't come away considering it a great experience.

Had a Shelby 'GLH' (hot rod Omni) back in the day- Nothing like massive turbo-lag and torque steer coming out of a turn to get your attention in the rain!

Actually Mr Shelby was quite well known in the heart transplant world... He was a unique case given his longevity given the technology at the time of his procedure. I would like to think he would endorse nearly anything and pass the proceeds on to heart transplant research,

Like it or not, those 1989 CSX Shadows were quite innovative for their day.

First production car to wear composite wheels (Fiberride) and a variable vane turbocharger.

We had a couple of the '86 Shelby GLH-S Omnis, which were hugely entertaining cars.

Mankind would be fortunate to have more 'whores' like that, the world would be a more interesting and fun place!

In one of Carroll's last interviews he said how much he loved working on the GLH. It was a car I wanted when I turned 16.

I did, last week. It was already in my basket before I realized whose name was on the package.

I made it false alarm style with Nilgai Antelope from south Texas. Delish!!

    I had one.
Fun car but it was a maintenance explosion waiting to happen. Thank Gawd I had an extended warranty.
Also the blue paint peeled off in sheets.
The Shelby in blue was covered by a secret warranty in which Dodge would repaint it free.
The GLH, same color same paint, was not.
    Screw Dodge.

Trying to place myself in the shoes of the original purchaser thinking "one day this will be collectable"

    Cant do it.

I had a friend who bought a Texas sesquicentennial Buick Lesabre in 86 thinking this was a brilliant investment.

Z-max shilling might have been whoreish
The Shelby Dodges of the late 80s-early 90s was not. Those were cool little econo racers.

There's nothing wrong with the 80s Mopar Shelby cars. Remember, at the time they were as fast and handled as well as anything else being produced domestically.

If you want to talk name dilution, the myriad of Shelby/Cobra/Boss Mustang variants lately has been bewildering to anyone who doesn't bleed blue.
