BMW i8

Congratulations to you both, even if a bit prematurely in Dr. John's case!

I love the i8, I love what BMW have proposed with it. If possible, please share your thoughts and pictures on the cars when they arrive!

 

Hopefully the i8 has a nicer interior than the i3. The i3 interior was not at all impressive when I checked it out.

 

I have driven the i3 and had an oppurtunity to check out i8 in detail. The i8 is more "car than EV" (miles better).

how were the materials? the i3 I saw looked like it was made with recycled cardboard.

 

Thanks for this. While others whine about the state of Ferrari and Porsche etc, I love this car more and more. It's coolness redefined. If I won the lottery tomorrow, I would be running to the BMW dealer soon after.

The i3 is cute but pretty crappy.

The i8 has quality leather and plastic. It's like a 6-series.

Hell yes.

 

Theres an i8 around my neighborhood and it always causes me to stare. its a cool looking car.

 

Mine arrives the U.S. next Wednesday. I'm crazy with excitement and probably more than when I spec'd the F430. I've been tracking it's whereabouts a few times a day via COLUMBIA HIGHWAY - Vehicles carrier: current position and details | IMO 9442873, MMSI 371172000, Callsign 3EQO8 | Registered in Panama - AIS Marine Traffic

Yes they are nice looking and cool technology at but at $150k+- thats approaching used MP4-12c prices..which will way out perform this...

 

while I agree it looks outstanding
getting in and out of it is a media worthy event
but hey, whatever turns you on

From what I've observed in the pre-pro cars, the interior quality is up there with the M6. Exactly what you'd expect from a $120-130k BMW

 

Jalopnik says the ride is harsh. This does not surprise me. the late model BMWs I have ridden in had rough rides. Suspect it is the run flat tires. Hopefully switching to non-run flats would solve the problem. Any body know?

Googled "BMW rough ride" and saw several complaints especially with the sport suspension.

I have a 118i Hatch, and my father drives a 528i, both 2013 models. Neither of our cars have rough rides, because we both opted for the smaller wheel sizes available. So despite being on run flats, our cars have tires with higher profile sidewalls and so the ride isn't that bad on the newer type run flat tires.

His old 550i had low profile run flats, he hit a pothole once and the wheel was dented. That car didn't have a great ride...

Roads here in São Paulo are horrible, by the way.
