Mercedes 300 SL Gullwing

The 300SL is one of my favorite classic cars. I'd love to own one someday, but they've gone up too much in value. Black on red is by far my favorite combination. I'm not affiliated with this seller, but this sold one catches my eye every time: 1955 Used Mercedes-Benz 300SL Gullwing at Canepa Serving Scotts Valley, IID 7316219

 

One of my favorites as well, and in the top few most beautiful designs in my opinion.

 

Very nice business he has there. Humm makes me wonder about specializing in one particular Ferrari model only.

 

Buxton toured this shop in one show and drove a blue fully restored version that was pure heaven. True craftsmanship going on there....I was drooling.

 

Our downtown Vancouver Mercedes dealer had a gullwing and roadster on display. The original owner of the dealerships cars. He bought them new. They ended up at Canepa last year for sale. I drooled over them as an early adult, when my parents switched to Mercedes in 91.

 

I believe that was Kienle Automobiltechnik.

 

Which I believe is HK? Could be wrong but wow the craftsmanship was/is simply amazing.

 

Two different shops. Hk is near Polling in southern Germany and Kienle is near Stutgartt.

A little while back I was in a discussion on cars. Someone was looking at Audi A8's. Someone else brought up German engineering is just a marketing ploy. I said maybe today, its more marketing now, but back in the day, in auto's the Germans where on top of their game. Just look at a 300SL and compare it to other cars of the era. You can clearly see Mercedes was tops in Engineering.
